Great pick. He’s smart, quick and has a great resume. He seems to have morals and values that are sadly lacking in the political arena these days.

2nd time I've seen/heard Sam ref that Shapiro would be the first Jewish major party candidate -- hello?! Gore-Lieberman 2000 not exactly ancient history. I was in favor of Shapiro pick to (hopefully) lock in PA electoral college votes, but hopeful that Walz can keep the mojo going

I think I hear JVL and Tim scoff at the idea that Michigan voters -- especially Detroit-area voters -- will be overly punitive of any Dem candidate because of Gaza. But back in April, this story: "Representative Rashida Tlaib (D., Mich.) on Thursday refused to condemn “death to America” chants that featured prominently at a rally in the district she represents. Last week, at an anti-Israel demonstration in Dearborn, Michigan, local activist Tarek Bazzi led a crowd in chants of “death to America” and “death to Israel,” saying the Jewish state “does not deserve to exist” and celebrating former Iranian ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini." THIS is what I'm talking about. I can't bring my years of teaching History in Ann Arbor to do a pas d'armes with pundits but I'm telling you -- the Gaza war is being fought right here in Wayne and Washtenaw counties. Chant what you want about other countries, but not the USA, which is protecting YOUR RIGHT to say stuff that would get you beheaded elsewhere.

Shapiro hasn’t been Governor that long, and picking him would have removed him from Pennsylvania, where he can now capitalize on his popularity to bring Pennsylvania around. I’m real tired of the antisemitism shtick that the media can’t seem to let go of. Being critical of the Netanyahu regime and it terrible approach to this war does not equate to antisemitism. Israelis themselves are getting fed up- are they too anti Semites?.

Super surprised you guys see Walz as 'the safe pick'! I'm with Ezra Klein (his most recent podcast) on this. It's Shapiro that was the safe pick for all the reasons Sarah, Bill and other bods at The Bulwark have stated. I think Walz shows she's bold and she won't just follow the all the pundits saying she needs to pick Shapiro to win PA. I was suprised she did it as I thought she'd go with the conventional political class pick. She didn't. I think that shows she has balls and I think it shows she has thought about that most important question asked of voters..... "Do you think she cares about people like me?" If voters aren't sure how she would answer that question. they are sure gonna know how Walz will answer it. A very big loud YES!

I honestly, as someone in their 40’s who enjoys alot of barstool content- gotta tell you that this adin Ross guy doesn’t overlap as much as you think.

No one over 25 watches a streamer. At least that’s what I have to tell myself to sleep at night

Something I had some concerns about why a Kamala/Shapiro may not work out. It would also require Shapiro to potentially make a brand shift, away from his centrist/moderate brand to a more progressive brand and that may have just been a bridge HE wasn't willing to cross

A great pick. I’m a moderate. Walz epitomizes my view of the patriotic American dream for the majority of middle class Americans. And middle class is a key here. Today’s politics require so much money to play, most of our recent leaders have come from money. Walz has the potential to give us all hope of being part of the team.

GREAT PICK!

As more reporting gets done it seems Shapiro all but withdrew his candidacy Sunday night. He probably is a better #1 than #2. Better for him and the party if he gets reelected, gets a trifecta, and sets up a 2028 or 2032 run.

Walz - wrong pick. Shapiro would have been better. He would attract some never-Trump Republicans who would see him as a moderate balance to Harris, making her not so "scary liberal." She caved to the left-wing of the Democratic party which says a lot about her true beliefs. Can't believe her statements of moderation; when it counted she doubled down on her liberal record.

I have been a political junkie since I was 6 years old. At 77 I still believe strongly in the maxim that a VP pick must "do no harm."

As attractive as he seemed to be Shapiro fails to meet that test on at least three counts, in my opinion. First, a majority of Americans support Palestinian statehood, not just the protesters that get all the attention. Israel's current government does not.

Second, unions were not happy with Shapiro's support of school vouchers.

Third, the sexual harassment settlement for one of Shapiro's staffers raised some eyebrows. Personally, I think there is "no there there" but do you doubt the republicans would not twist what happened into an issue?

Trump's people will try to paint Walz as a communist, but he doesn't sound like one. Most of the liberal policies they will attack are supported by a majority of the American people. The Floyd riots have been litigated already and, in my opinion, will only attract the Maga crowd.

Finally, not only did Walz not advocate defunding the police, he increased their funding.

Summed up my thoughts exactly. Anyone seeing last night's rally can see they make quite the duo and Walz was an excellent choice!

Harris isn't a 'scary liberal', though. That's just made up BS from the right wing.

Never trumpers should spend more time cleaning up their own party instead of telling Dems who to nominate in theirs

You have it surprisingly all wrong. Shapiro will campaign for the ticket anyway, and Harris will win PA. It's silly to think that more Pennsylvanians will vote for Harris because of Shapiro. They will vote for her anyway, and she would get some progressive push back to Shapiro.

I live in PA and I love Shapiro. He is a PR juggernaut. I think its a bright future for him.

Funny line from Walz I read today: the reason he looks so old for 60 is the twenty years he did on school lunch room duty. I was a Shapiro fan, but I do think Walz is looking like the better pick, after all. I see Shapiro as Alpha in most every way. He's POTUS level talent, and has those ambitions, clearly. I did keep wondering if VP wingman was really going to sit well with him. Or her, for that matter. . . .

I don't think Shapiro had too much bad baggage, except for the Israel "debate"- whatever that means right now. Two sharp coastal/elite AG's. Maybe too rich for the blood. People are craving a fresh change. Maybe Walz's down to earth, all around good guy is going to feel a lot more comfortable to so many who've felt forgotten for a very long time. Many of them live in his neighborhood.

They had hoped a Strongman could help them. What a disaster that turned out to be. It's hard to see a clearer contrast between Harris/Walz and Camp Trump. On pretty much every level.

Time for some fun, for a change. She's fun. He's fun. Let the games begin! 👏

I will have to take your word for Shapiro as the Alpha. I haven't seen much of the guy before the veepstakes, but what I saw since was kind of unimpressive. Just another politician. I will have to take the word of others who know him better that he is destined for the big prize.

From what I've seen and heard from many sources- including here at the BW, he's a rising star. I do think we're going to see his ambitions soar. He has many detractors, but I get the feeling he's not going to be greatly deterred. Just what I've heard.....

It seems from reporting Shapiro came to that conclusion himself and all but withdrew Sunday night when he called Harris. He has the opportunity to become and even better leader and build capital for a later run at the top job.

Yes, I heard that theory on CNN. And it's very believable. However, we're also hearing that team Trump was also working to sink him with bad oppo dirt, ginning up the lefties on Gaza issues, stirring up the teachers union, etc. Doing all they could to bury him.

I will say I watched the Walz rollout earlier, and it was a tour de force from the K/W campaign. Shapiro gave a barnburner of an intro speech. Kamala's intro of Walz launched him to the moon, and his own speech was just great. So, they've done the best they could with the Shapiro let down, it seems. I do NOT believe this means she doesn't get PA at all. At all. But it had seemed to me this was just not going to work with Shapiro having to play wingman. He'd been asking for more like a two-fer kind of deal. That could not have worked. She has to be the only POTUS in office.

So on it goes. Barnstorming across these United States now underway. ✈️

It probably is a win win for both of them. Josh does the team player role to deliver PA for Harris-Walz this year and then build the capital up for a run in ‘32.

You couldn't ask for more! I look forward to watching her and Tim win this thing. And I'm especially excited to watch Josh soar, after an excellent governorship, and having helped send PA their way.

Walz was under estimated by everyone. But as a former teacher, he solidifies an important part of the base. Shapiro had a beef with the teachers in PA over vouchers. Teachers have been one of the biggest donors to the Harris campaign so far. Don't understand why nobody did this math. I think he's a good pick. Fun, great speaker, positive energy. He'll be able to articulate messages around project 2025 and take on JD Vance.
