On this week’s episode, Sonny Bunch (The Bulwark), Alyssa Rosenberg (The Washington Post), and Peter Suderman (Reason) debate OpenAI’s use of a voice that sounds suspiciously like Scarlett Johansson.
The technology keeps throwing me off but I have only one thing to say YAY SCARJO. Altman and his ilk are horrible and as usual Alyssa is right: personhood matters and even the cleverest violations of it are nothing short of hideous!
I find it incredibly hard to believe the story that Sam Altman, this actress, and her agent are trying to sell us. Like, the most charitable explanation is that on a subconscious level it created a bias towards the voice of the actress. Even then that strikes me as ludicrous as being so mad after an altercation with a neighbor that you decided to fly your flag upside down.
Anyway, I just so happen to be in the midst of hiring an actor that is not Peter Suderman but might sound like him. I’m trying to build an AI model that just praises Zack Snyder films, including both of the Rebel Moons.
