I'm a pretty avid gamer but I'm apprehensive to see this trend completely take off. As you all said, many games have very little story and the ones that do tend to be choose your own adventures. I think the video game adaptation misses have well outnumbered the hits as a result thus far and the failure hits harder because it is a property you care about. I'm hoping to see unique stories and characters set in popular game universes. That way it has the right flavor but the movie isn't straight jacketed into following a plot that was an afterthought or a character that was a blank canvas.
