It used to be that Politicians showed up on SNL. Now it’s more of SNL showing up on politicians. Whether it was Ben Carson falling asleep at the debates in 2016, Rick Perry’s oops in 2012, Sarah Palin’s absolute idiocy in 2008, Bernie’s Curb Your Enthusiasm campaigns in 2016 & 2020, or everything related to Donald Trump politics is even more satire than SNL nowadays.
It used to be when someone on SNL made fun of George HW Bush, George W Bush, Joe Biden, etc. it was because they were serious politicians that can be made to sound goofy by a comedian. Now in the era of Sarah Palin/Donald Trump/Herman Cain they don’t need any help to act like a comedy joke.
SNL in its current iteration does have its moments but is a far cry from when the not ready for prime time players were on. Clinton being on Arsenal did help him show a different side and helped him. Nikki is basically playing with house money these days and if she was less risk averse had the writers come up with some entertaining bits; Shopping at Target for Bud Light with Taylor Swift and then going to Disney World with her and Travis? The potential was there but the opportunity was missed.
Well, it got a C+ from CinemaScore audiences (paying audiences who see the movie on opening weekend), so I wouldn't say the critics are alone here. But I'm glad you enjoyed the movie!
You guys had such fun dissing this movie I almost wish for a sequel just to hear y'all review it. Thanks for the laughs and good vibes that are so sorely needed these days (see, e.g., Nikki on SNL).
These people complaining about Nikki Haley on SNL make me want more politicians on SNL. I mean, just not Trump. I'm so annoyed with these dorks on the internet complaining about this totally benign thing. Not cover on this podcast, but SNL bringing Shane Gillis on the show to host is far more interesting in how it will antagonize these internet dorks. I don't get the sense that I share politics with Shane Gillis but the dude is funny. That seems like it should matter more than anything else?
Who can forget “sock it to me?”

Remember this gem Melissa Carone from 2020:

You can’t make this up this is real and more crazy than anything SNL can think of that’s the world we live in now.

Saw Argylle today. Thought it was fun. Ridiculous at times, but overall a fun watch. That’s why I pay no attention to critics reviews.

being funny on SNL, now there's a concept
Ironically, that was Rudy's joke in 2001 when SNL came back on the air post 9/11 when he was on for the opening.
