"Isn't it past your jail time?" is the best shot at the whiny bitch ever. Mockery is the best medicine. I think you guys will find yourselves in the minority. "The way I would've done it" is easy to say, but these people fight asymmetrically. We need to fight asymmetrically as well. Kimmel's shot was a reminder of what we've always hated about Trump. He's a baby. A big fat baby.
I agree that it was a great show, and Ryan was great with his Ken song. There were great movies in '23, and the production numbers were all great (Billie Eilish). I liked almost all the winning choices, but somehow disagree with your quibbles.
Bashing Trump is Kimmel's thing, he can't resist.
The big thing that has changed in the show is the removal of the lifetime awards and the Academy speech, which lengthens the show too much.
EXACTLY! While Sonny was yapping about an "in kind contribution" he then does precisely just that! The critique of Kimmel by all three hosts was beyond hypocritical. This was just silly, snarky, and really downright snobbish and rude. The 'tsk, tsk' attitude displayed here was made even worse by the fact that it consumed these three hosts to the point they blew 1/4 of their show on this.
As for Kimmel's attention paid to Trump, that is what should be done each and every day. Every person with access to the American public should be yelling from the rooftops and spotlighting what an absolute buffoon he is.
My son and I saw Oppenheimer (after driving two hours to see it on 70 mm IMAX) and recently we saw Zone of Interest. They were definitely the best two movies of the year and won the appropriate Oscars.
Intriguing conversation. I had the opposite reaction to Kimmel’s decision to fill otherwise dead air by reading Trump’s post. I thought it was hilarious and most importantly was not belabored.
If there’s potential Kimmel may have helped Trump by making fun of his juvenile reaction to him on the Oscars — a major party presidential candidate and a talk show host — there’s equal potential, in this evenly divided country, that it helped Biden. We are talking tiny marginal potential among swing voters at this point. Pointing out Trump’s unpresidential trolling is at best a wash, par for the course for what Kimmel does as a host, and another indication of what the country gets with Trump, something objectively mockworthy as well as newsworthy, however predictable his trolling may be at this point; he’s the coin flip choice to lead the free world next January. But point taken on the overall vibe of the Oscars and how it does near zilch to welcome anyone on the right.
Another great show. As always, I learn, I want to see all the movies -- even the ones I've already seen -- and I feel I've spent some quality time not doing what I should have been doing. Would love to see y'all in DC but I'm going to be in Sonny's backyard (Blanco, near Luckenbach) for the total eclipse and to visit friends.
Thanks especially to Alyssa for reminding us that (and why) the Navalny tribute at the opening of In Memorium was SO important in its FILM context. We’ve gotten so used to the ADHD of media it was wonderful to be reminded of the great indelibility and import of some images that would otherwise be lost.

People should be reminded that trump is an idiot, and as you say, a "big fat baby."
When Peter, Alyssa, and Sonny host the Oscars next year I presume they will have the freedom to do it their way.

Anything that mocks and humiliates Trump before a large audience laughing at him is just fine by me.
I don't get it. If you don't want to feed the troll by mentioning Trump, then why spend the first fifteen minutes talking about Trump?

Seriously, more self restraint in comedy? Especially from a first class political satirist like Kimmel?
Great podcast, per usual.

Ten minutes of talking about Kimmel reading the trump social media post?
I agree. Best Oscars in decades. They got so much right for a well needed change.
