That photo of Roseanne is very "it's not me who got small, it's the SITCOMS that got small"

In regard to your No Labels piece, I am all for a third or multiparty system. However before we can achieve this, the Electoral College needs to be reformed or done away with. Example, when Ross Perot ran against Clinton and Bush 41, I had some worries that none of the candidates would reach the 270 threshold to win the election and it would then be thrown to the House to decide. Of course the majority of the house would vote for their guy. Back then I could live with that decision. I DON'T trust this House. Even with their slim majority, this do nothing congress would install their guy and so ends our democracy.

We need to either get rid of the 270 threshold or the Electoral College all together. We would also need to get rid of Gerrymandering, which if we get rid of the EC. Gerrymandering would become moot.

We're not getting rid of the Electoral College. We can make it much more reflective of the popular vote by taking the lid off the number of members of the House of Representatives and letting it expand, but our current politicians either don't understand or don't want that.

We NEVER want a Presidential election to be decided by the House if we can avoid it. Remember, when an election goes to the House, "the majority of the House" does NOT get to elect the President: each state gets one vote. And if a state has an evenly divided delegation -- currently the case of Minnesota and North Carolina -- it ends up casting no vote. In the current House, the Republicans control 26 delegations, the Democrats control 22. That's a lock for the Republican candidate if an election goes to the House, unless the Democrats can turn their ties into majorities in Minnesota and North Carolina, and flip two more delegations in the 2024 election.

I’d like to (wishful) think this election might bring some civil-minded decency back to the country. But I’m enough of a realist to know ‘If it’s Got to be, then it will be me’. Each one of us has to do everything we can before November. In my own corner of life, I was heartened to hear from several friends how serious this election will be. They hadn’t paid it much attention until late. Perhaps the rest of the country might sit up and listen and act!

It's annoying. Part of elevating public discourse is proper composition, not a format that slows down the reader.

You made my day quoting that "crazy Dominican" (Whitey's words!) Joaquin Andujar! Those were good times to be a Cards fan (except for game 6 of the 1985 World Series, of course).

"Israel has agreed to permit the opening of a third crossing into Gaza for humanitarian aid" Nice, but what is protecting the aid workers once they cross? The CNN report said that Israel was considering "thermal stickers" to keep the IDF from not being able to see the vehicle markings. I'd suggest simple lights. But until they stop "considering" and actually DOING it Biden needs to say "sorry, not checked off your to do list yet."

And I am amazed that those targeting the vehicles could see "gunmen" in the car (actually it was a bag one was carrying) but somehow missed the aid vehicle markings.

The Jew is at fault, right? The Jew is always at fault. Russia relentlessly bombs and destroys Ukranian cities and moves into small towns rapes murders burns decapitates civilians then dumps them in shallow graves and there are no marches, protests, boycotts, nothing. Why should they protest. It wasn't Jews that did it, right? My god if it was. These masked protesters would have attacked Jewish hospitals Synagogues beat rabbis in the streets, boycott Jewish delis but these atrocities are fine, fine for the world. No Jews involved here, right?

Last time I checked, Russia is not an ally of the US, nor a democracy or being subsidized militarily to the tune of billions of dollars by the US. I assume you understand the distinction.

Within the alliance of the democratic world, where the rules laid out in the Geneva Convention regarding the conduct of war are to be adhered to - including that war is not to be perpetrated but only engaged in self-defense (something the US seems to have ignored since the end of WWII and the signing of the Convention) and that civilians are not to be targeted with casualties kept to a minimum and that medical and humanitarian aid is to provided and protected.

The "No Labels Party" should change their name to the "Whiney Little Bitches Party." Seldom is anyone 100% happy with their party's choice. I've been voting since 1980 and only ONCE has my original preference for president survived through the primaries and that was Hillary Clinton and even that didn't turn out the way I wanted. But I knew that the person selected was immensely preferrable to the opposing party's choice. I've never had to hold my nose to vote.

The whiney little bitches moniker could apply equally if not more so to the Republican party.

"a daily barrage of reporters’ questions about the humanitarian toll in Gaza with versions of the same response: Even one civilian death is a tragedy, and America urges Israel to do all it can to minimize the loss of innocents, but the ultimate responsibility for collateral damage in Gaza lies with Hamas"

The Dem talking point of "it's all Hamas' fault for the ongoing war" is wearing very thin to this supporter of Israel (but *not* Netanyahu [the Israeli Trump {sic}] and his hard right coalition [MIGA]), and it's well past time for Pres Biden to build a huge fire under Netanyahu to straighten up and fly right, to do the right thing. Bibi has made excuse after excuse for the excess Palestinian civilian deaths caused by the IDF orders to pursue Hamas at all costs. It's time -- actually well past time -- for the wanton bombings in Gaza to cease, and a more targeted approach to be taken (since military drones have become a big thing maybe the IDF should consider using them since they can be aimed at a precise target). If Netanyahu doesn't change how he is prosecuting his war any further aid must be for defense only, i.e. the Iron Dome.

While I still don't think the death tolls being reported by the Gazan Ministry of Health are legit -- there is no breakout of Hamas fighters and their civilian human shields -- the numbers are *still* staggering. Papa Joe Stalin said: "The death of one person is a tragedy. The death of millions is a statistic[,]" and, imo, too many of us are now taking the rising death toll as a statistic and not the humanitarian catastrophe Gaza has become.

If you wonder why the GOP and the MAGAs have such crazy views that appear to be so out of touch with the real world...you need to wander over to FoxNews today and visit the Opinion section. The lead article there is entitled "11 Ways Biden and his Handlers are Hell-bent on Destroying America". The article is written by Victor Davis Hanson. I've seen him around obviously but I never really read up on his bio. Hard to say what took him so astray from the truth, but this article is SO hyperbolic, partisan and brazen...it's just flat out unbelievable. Are these people smoking crack or something? It's just so disheartening to see this stuff being promoted as something we all should realize...that Joe Biden's sole purpose is to destroy the country he lives in and serves as its leader.

Yes, they live in a totally different universe. I think some of the just play "Can You Top This," with. what they make -up. They know what sells and to keep going they have to get more bizarre, and more sadistic, and satanic. It's kind of funny that most UFOs land in red states. I think the one that replaced Biden with a body-double landed in Idaho.
