It isn't about abandonment with regard to the arms shipments. It is about accountability. It is a distinction with a difference. particularly when some try to make it foremost a political consideration.

Personally, I think another approach we should have tried years ago, is to revoke every American Jewish settlers US citizenship. We should also outlaw any NGO or foundation that sends money to Israel in support of the settlements.

For me, this isn’t about just arming Israel. They are an ally, and they have other dangerous adversaries in the region (Syria, Hezbollah and Iran); it’s holding them accountable for their actions over the last two decades in regard to the occupation.

The treatment of Palestinians is atrocious. And unless we force Israel into agreeing to support a two state solution, we will continue to be just kicking the can down the road.

Rinse, lather, repeat! Except with each new invasion and response, the death and casualty rates increase exponentially!

Revoking citizenships is the kind of thing the Trump Cult wants.

Forget the MAGA mob, regardless of what democrats do, they will rant and rage, and then do far worse anyway.

The occupation is illegal, plain and simple. Granted Israel needs a partner in peace. However, their treatment of the Palestinians in the territories is horrendous.

The military allows these settlers to attack Palestinian towns with impunity. They lock up Palestinians on the most ridiculous of charges. And Netanyahu has been paying lip service to any possibility of a two state solution, while undermining any efforts to find a peaceful solution.

Do you have a better solution? I’m all ears…:)

FWIW, I am sympathetic to the concerns Israelis have about their security since the 1st Intifada in the 80s and then the Hamas suicide bombings that began after the Oslo agreement in the 90s. Then the 2nd Intifada in 2000. When people talk about the treatment of Palestinians, I don't see any recognition that their actions threaten Israeli security and Israeli actions are in response to that. It was the Arabs who refused to accept the UN partition plan in 1947 and they've been fighting it ever since.

I don't know enough about the charges Palestinians have been locked up over to have an opinion about them. but the vigilante settlers having free reign in the West Bank? Netenyahu is not enforcing the law and that makes the West Bank lawless, something the US should not be aligned with.

Biden has spoken about this and also taken some action against the settlers. But I think he should make something of this as big as he made his objection to bombing Rafah.

I don’t disagree but this is the EXACT argument that the Africana’s made about apartheid. They said if they abandoned apartheid the African population would try to kill them.

At some point you have to ask what about the Palestinians security. There is no easy answer. It will have many bumps in the road to finding a solution but eventually Israel can’t be an occupier. It strains their politics, international relations and ability to grow economically.

Well said, Deutschmeister. We don't have to agree with everything an ally does, and we have the right to say, 'No, we're not going to help you do something we disagree with.'
