That section with optimus and pessimus was really cute and funny, thanks

Not sure why so many seem to be okay, or not questioning the "why?", with the world-wide flood entering this country. How can they all be refugees. How many have no legitimate paperwork? How many have not been vaccinated against those diseases taken for granted here?

We do have to talk about the Constitutionality of the TikTok ban. The last one failed on free speech grounds, and it seems like this one will fail for precisely the same reasons. "National security" isn't usually a big enough issue to overcome the freedom of speech, as the Pentagon Papers made clear.

Speaking of memory, when you are 40 you have about 20 adult years of adult events to remember. When you are 60 you have twice as many years of events to remember. Sitting here I can't remember off hand what year I started my job I had most of my adult life. Don't remember what year my mother died off hand. I'd have to think about it. But I don't need to remember because I can look it up. I'll never forget the day each of my kids were born. I think physical pain can really stay in your memory.

"Democratic Rep. Pramila Jayapal’s assertion that Hur’s report had “completely exonerated” drew a protest from Hur, who maintained it wasn’t his role as special counsel to exonerate anybody—“that’s not part of my task as a prosecutor.”"

OTOH, Mr Hur *does* believe that part of his task was to make Pres Biden to look like a demented old fool. He based this opinion on his extensive background in Psychiatry/Psychology... oh, wait... he has no training in mental health. I guess being a partisan hack means he can offer a (smeared) opinion on the supposed senility of an older person with no knowledge of what he is talking about, but exonerating someone who made a simple mistake (the same one as Mike Pence who was exonerated), and when it was pointed out to him he immediately did the right thing in turning the docs over and allowing a search of places he might have kept them, was beyond the scope of the special prosecutor!?!?!

I guess being a tool of the New GOP allows Mr Hur to do what is in his power to try to add to the swaying of the voters against an effective POTUS who sees bipartisanship as the way to govern, as opposed to what we can expect if the Mango Malignancy is returned to the Oval Office [turns head and spits three times between index and middle fingers].

A note on David Head's article on Wilt Chamberlain. Wilt may have been the worst foul shooter in the history of NBA. Just about all those 100 points had to be made 2 points at a time under duress. An amazing accomplishment regardless of how bad the Knicks were, and continue to be.

I am younger than Biden and I have never been good at remembering dates, though I have always been good at remembering events. I hated "date" questions on history tests!

If TikTok is sold you can bet the Chinese hacker farm will be attacking it all day every day. Or before the sale they'll have put in so many deeply embedded back doors they can still insert or suck all the info and data they want out of it.

I don't drink coffee outdoors in March, but I am generally on the optimistic side of the curve. If that were not the case, I wouldn't be able to wake up every day for weeks and contact members of Congress urging them to support Ukraine funding. This week's calls are about getting signatures for the discharge petitions. I do this in full awareness of the likely futility of the effort. Because Mike Johnson hates gay people as much as Putin does, and Johnson and MAGA love trump more than they love anything or anyone, they will help Putin kill as many Ukrainians as Putin pleases.

It is easy to caricature optimists. Sure, we can appear naive to self-styled "realists." Perhaps it is more hope than optimism that gets Optimus up in the morning to keep on going. What is it that moves Pessimus to stay in the fight?

Why isn't this the headline? "BREAKING NEWS With the primary results coming in from Georgia, President Biden has officially seized the Democratic party’s nod for president." It's being treated like a hoo-hum buried amid the "too old"ism I'm still seeing here. Obviously the voters don't think he's too old.

Because the legitimate media (Bulwark excepted) STILL hasn't figured out how to cover Trump, and they persist in giving him too much free and positive coverage. They act like they don't have any skin in this game when in fact they're one of Trump's biggest targets if he regains power.

When a dictator rules, there is no "in group." Everyone - even those who work the closest with a dictator are at risk of his wrath. Take for instance, Yevgeny Prigozhin - who the west thought was Putin's right-hand man and a close confidant to Putin. He was deliberately killed (by Putin) in a plane crash because Putin perceived him as "threat." The entire "Wagner Mercenary Army" has just dropped off the radar.

If you have any contacts in the Dem Party and you believe that they can use my "wording" please tell

them to proceed. A personal letter from Biden is on the back cover of the book.

Pryapal sure handed the Republicans a gift. Whatever made her imagine that was a good word to use with a Special Counsel?

Hur being forced to read from his own report on camera how Donald Trump obstructed and hid classified documents may have insured he doesn’t get an appointment in a Trump Administration

What did she say? (It's Jayapal, BTW. I searched and google gave me paypal.) What was the bad word?

Exonerated. Hur then answered emphatically that his report did not exonerate Biden. There just wasn't enough evidence to indict him.

Thx. Then why did Citizen say she handed the Rs a gift?

Just one simple question; if 150m Tik Tok users can influence American Politics and apparently can change minds and forestall action, why can’t 70% of Americans change gun laws, or abortion access? To quote an infamous media personality (or two), ‘Just Asking Questions’….

If the case for TikTok is strong with respect to national security and Trump now opposes the banning of TikTok, can a case be made that Trump actually very friendly with China (a lot of flattering info out there) and is actually willing to let China/Xi to actively manipulate TikTok users? Of course, this may not be a big sell for a lot of people.

A day late but yesterday you praised Sarah Longwell's Republican Voters Against Trump's new media campaign in which voters explain why they won't vote for Trump again. I watched two the 100 videos — and I could take no more. Longwell explained the tactic behind the videos: "It’s really important to understand you’re not building a pro-Joe Biden coalition. You’re building an anti-Trump coalition." PERFECT I thought to myself. That's exactly the right tactic. The NY Times confirmed the tactic: "Longwell’s group focuses solely on attacking Mr. Trump through the voices of his former backers.... Notably, the speakers in the video do not praise Mr. Biden or offer a case" for voting for him. Again, perfect, stay away from even mentioning Biden's name, which is toxic to even these voters. And yet both videos I watched violated Longwell's approach. It wasn't the voters; fault. It was Longwell's, for posting the videos. I titled my thoughts on this debacle, "Can't anybody here play this game?" https://www.pmcarpenter.com/2024/03/rat.html. I still admire Ms. Longwell immensely. But this was an unforced error. An inexcusable one, too.

I think you misunderstand. Sarah's quote applies to the RVAT videos that are turned into paid ads. When you go to the RVAT site (I worked for RVAT in 2020), people there are definitely endorsing Biden, if they want to. It's their testimony.

Expand full comment

Yes I understood that, Jim. I specified the fault was not in the videos themselves, but in the selection of videos chosen to air. Any to reference "Biden" should never see the airwaves. It's a potentially negative distraction from the principal tactic that Sarah articulated so well.

Hi Sandy and thank you for this message this morning. I actually use paragraphs, but for some reason when I hit the save button, it takes them out. I will see if I can fix this but am not much of a techie. I will send your message to the Dem National Committee, but feel free to use it as you wish Read: From Democracy to Democrazy as well. It was written as a warning to all Americans - we need to change the direction of our country or we will end up marching in front a dictator with the same solute used by Hitler.

Sometimes the paragraphs work, sometimes they don't, at least for me. Double spacing sometimes does it.
