That's because they are always speaking to their "base," not their opponent. A "base" that craves comforting lies and fears the truth. They also avoid criticizing each other in public when they do disagree, either on facts or strategy. Because it's never about finding the truth wherever it lies, but to keep the "big tent" happy. And now this GOP "big tent" is a literal cult.
