Thanks for reminding us Mike Johnson is laying the groundwork for stop the steal 2.0 (let’s hope it is necessary as Biden wins in that scenario). His recent Ukraine aid bill notwithstanding, he was one of the worst offenders of the stop the steal movement 4 years ago. Liz Cheney’s book really showed who this guy is.

"“I hope the country understands that we can’t keep getting this close to disaster. It’s not good.”"

Rep Jackson is at least partially correct. He's correct about skating too close to disaster over and over again, and he's also right that the recurring approach of ruination is a bad thing. My problem is that Mr Jackson says that he hopes Americans grok this. IMO, a vast majority of the country are already aware of the dangers but about half don't give a rat's patoot; these fine folk are much more concerned that their elected officials "own the Libs" at any cost. If the US goes down the toilet these people would be content just so long as *no* Dem/Lib/centrist come out of the approaching fiasco with any sort of success. There is no concern expressed just as long as their pet peeves and hatred of "the other" are acknowledged, complained about to the high heavens, and acted on to the best of the MAGAdroids. (I think that the MAGAverse is less concerned with results than they are with the political theater and how it speaks directly to their hearts.)

(The following quotes are from TFG's "Truth" Social post unless otherwise noted)

"highly respected State Legislator, John McGuire, a true American Hero. John, who fought the Cartels on the Front Line"

McGuire is respected by who, exactly? Not even in my wildest imagination can I believe that a MAGAdroid has the respect of Dems, centrists, and that soon-to-be-extinct breed: Normie Repubs.

Furthermore, I was unaware that the Navy Seals were sent to Mexico to fight the cartels. Had this indeed happened I'm sure it would have made international headlines no matter how secretive Seal team assignments are. Plus, sending a military unit, of any size, into another country uninvited would be considered by most as an act of war.

"I had the safest Border in history, built hundreds of miles of Wall"

Unmitigated bovine scat. Undocumented border crossing steadily increased during Trump's [sic] years in office:

"President Trump’s top policy priority was supposedly “border security.” But government data show that he failed to improve it. Border Patrol recorded 41 percent more successful illegal entries in fiscal year 2019 than in 2016 and was on pace for 47 percent more through four months of 2020." https://www.cato.org/blog/trumps-border-policies-let-more-immigrants-sneak

And he didn't come close to building "hundreds of miles of Wall:"

"President Trump campaigned on the promise to construct a massive border wall, a project that has failed to meet expectations, with only 47 of the promised 800 miles built during his four years in office." https://bipartisanpolicy.org/blog/biden-trump-border-policies/

"He is strong on crime, will protect our great Military/Vets, and will always defend our under siege Second Amendment."

I strongly suspect that Mr McGuire, like Trump [sic], might swear *by* the 2A but swears *at* the 1A, 4A, 5A....

(One more thing to keep in mind; TFG endorsed candidates tend to win their primaries, but as we witnessed in 2020 and '22 his picks tend to go down in flames in the general. Party extremists usually dominate during the primaries, but it is the Normies -- the centrist and moderate voters of each party -- who control the general election.)

Regarding Mike Johnson and the plaque, expect anything different? He is simply following the orders of the real speaker of the House.

After my Dad retired my parents moved from Bucks County PA to a deep red city in central PA (Sarah would understand) where my mother’s relatives lived.

Dad watched WoF religiously (well, he was a minister), Even if other family members were visiting, at 7:00 PM it was time for WoF. He did this for over 20 years.

He’d even watch the ads although when election season rolled around we finally taught him how to use the mute button on the remote. This was just out of self preservation for whichever of us kids were visiting.

The mute button helped but he’d get worked up regardless of the lack of sound. I guess this would count as engagement by the various campaigns. 🤷‍♂️

Hard to feel sorry for the potential loss of any Freedom Caucus member. However, getting an even more strident supporter of Trumpet is never a good idea.

Maybe it will have the effect of increasing the vote for (I assume) the Democrat candidate. It's happened in other elections. But I wouldn't hold my breath.

A louder trumpet in place of a very slightly more muted one.

Every Democrat running for President, a seat in the House of Representatives, and U.S. Senate should continually hammer their Republican opponents over their failure to install the memorial to the law enforcement officers who saved their skins on January 6, 2021. It is a U.S. political tradition to repeatedly wave the bloody shirt on the hustings, and this has so much more value now than mere propaganda. Hammer those 1d10ts every day and every night from now through the November elections.

Oh, about the other stuff...I don't care about TV game shows. I don't own a TV so I'm not available to be fed political ads for anyone. I have never watched Wheel of Fortune or Jeopardy. I have seen a few clips from each on YouTube and have been very impressed with the inability of participants to spell pretty commonly known words (demonstrating the failure of both High School and University English courses as well as the Phonetics regime that passed swiftly by a while back.

I don't live in Virginia's 5th Congressional District, so I am unable to vote for or against Bob the No-Good Misrepresentative. Wouldn't do much good if I could.

Standby for this from The False Prophet and his sycophants: "Human Scum Biden Responsible for MASSIVE Price Increase of Eggs!!!" After all, the President must be held personally responsible for the state (Iowa) order to slaughter 4.2 million chickens infected with bird flu. <sigh>

We see once again that Trump will throw anybody under the bus at any time. (if it serves him) Knowing Good's far right MAGA politics combined with that district, his defeat is most likely. But I'm sure Good will take one for the team when he gets defeated in the primary. One more thing, it is really galling that Trump touts McGuire's service when Trump regards those people who have died in the service of their country as "saps and suckers".

I don't know for what cynical reason, but I could not stop laughing at that mockup of Wheel today, with these faces staring out of the squares. That, plus the 65+ audience glued to the tube each and every night the like the faithful in prayer. Which creates a political-ad goldmine. Honestly, what to do but laugh-it just seems so on point.

I am a true Wheel [and Jeopardy] fan - but the caution about the new hot is a bit overdrawn. Sajek was poiiticaly conservative and didn't hide it when he had his own interview show [which didn't last long.] He also was a visible supporter of many Republican candidates - BUT he never et his politics impact his hosting of Wheel. So a new host doesn't really have to be someone who is a political neuter - only one who promises [and keeps the promise] to not let his or her politics implicate his/her hosting.

As I wrote, Sajak's personal politics were irrelevant. Campaigns on both sides spend big during Wheel because of the audience and the low cost compared to things like football. A new host could make that audience shrink (as was the case with Jeopardy).

Attorneys would call what you wrote "conclusionary," meaning you skip over all the development of your point and go straight to an unsupported conclusion containing several great big assertions.

I wasn't intending to write a thesis.

But to satisfy your point. I worked at KNBC-TV when Sajak was the "weather guy" and experienced his persona.

But then, you and some other pseudo-lawyers might consider that hearsay.

Your logical fallacy here is the fallacy of the excluded middle. No one asked you to write a thesis. Your great big assertions alluded to his conduct as host of Wheel of Fortune. THAT conduct is what you should have used for support. You did not do so, and you did not do so in your reply.

None of this is defense of Sajak. I simply object to gratuitous slamming of anyone with nothing behind it. Leave that sort of thing to Trump and MAGA.

We can't honor the Capital and Metropolitan police because that would mean acknowledging the reality of what they faced on Jan 6th. Speaker Johnson should ask himself what could possibly be controversial about honoring brave law enforcement officers doing hand-to-hand combat to protect the Capitol and lawmakers? Oh right, it was Mike's people who were beating and macing the cops that day. Awkward, eh Mikey?

My House Rep Chip Roy is also sitting on the same picket fence as Bob Good, he also endorsed DeSantis, but was uncontested in the primary. Chipper has also called on Ken Paxton to resign, but refused to endorse Tony Gonzalez in his runoff. I hope Trump publicly does not endorse Chipper, perhaps he could be defeated by the Dem in the fall. (Wish casting, I known)
