Even if he could potentially do the job, it’s now too much of a risk.
I agree. I can only hope that Biden is privately giving serious consideration to how and when to withdraw (and ask his delegates to support VP Harris instead). The reporting so far is not heartening. I am especially disappointed by the reporting that Biden’s family, including the First Lady, seem to be doubling down on encouraging him to stay in.
The only addendum I'd add to your comment about Bidens selfishness is that I also think it's incredibly selfish and unpatriotic for *Kamala* not to remove herself from ticket if she truly believes Trump represents an existential threat to democracy. She knows exactly how unpopular she is with voters and how much of an impediment she is to the ability of Democrats to replace Biden with a viable alternative. Why aren't more people making a moral case against her decision to stay on? If democracy is on the line - and it is - then we should be furious with anyone who puts their ego and/or their political future before the protecting democracy by giving us the best chance to defeat Trump.
If Kamala were take the nomination and run, I think it would make the most sense for her to start by saying “I have been the vice president to the oldest president in history. I have had one job since day one- be ready to take over as president at any given time. I am ready right now”.
If everyone sat Kamala down and said “it is up to you to go out and do better than you ever thought you could do”, it is possible she could do it. I am no Kamala fan boy, but I can get on board with argument that if you are dealing with a felon, you might need a prosecutor.
So, I learned once the DC media finally started talking after Thursday's debacle, that the WH keeps the VP on a VERY short leash so as not to undermine or overshadow POTUS, which may be why we never see either one of them except in the most controlled settings on the planet, and stupid talk shows. The reality is that Kamala Harris can prosecute the case 100% better, backwards and in high heels that President Biden. She would simply be better, and despite all of the racism and misogyny, I would bet on her handling the job in 5 years too. So before we get all uppity about his replacement, the call for him to release his delagates and get out is the only important thing.
Old white dude with ego refuses to drop out even though he has zero chance of winning, but no, let's blame the comptent black woman who has nothing to do with Biden screwups 🙄🙄
What are you talking about, did you completely ignore the part at the top of my post where I said that I agree with the OP that Biden was being selfish? What a bizarre interpretation of what I said. I'm saying they're *both* being selfish here, which they are. And I was pretty clear about it too, so I'm genuinely baffled as to how you could have arrived at the conclusion that I was absolving Biden of blame here.
Not sure this is true, Josh Barro said campaigns can transfer their funds to the party, so the DNC could spend it on the candidates' behalf. Not as ideal, but doesn't mean it can't be put to use.

"I alone can fix it" - both candidates
I wrote in a piece today that Biden declaring that he personally defeated Trump is an egocentric reading of 2020 when a pro-democracy coalition rallied to defeat Trump. https://www.playtyperguy.com/p/biden-masterfully-steals-news-cycle

Harris polls worse than he does, especially in the swing states.
Agree with all of this.

I agree. Biden would have less trouble if he had a VP ready go step in. Kamala just doesn’t project seriousness

otoh Harris would have access to all the money raised AND she has been vetted nationally, which is not true about any other candidate

Any candidate would have all the money.
JVL article today in Bulwark: "Also, she’s probably the only candidate who could inherit the $91.6 million the Biden campaign has in the bank."
I don't think that is accurate....check out JVL's article today, where he addresses this issue
