I'm sorry--I didn't actually answer your question.
I believe Reps Omar and Talib were vocal opponents of the Biden admin policy. But I believe the reference was broader than just members of the legislature, to include thought leaders as well.
"Rep. Stephen Lynch (D-Mass.) was interrupted during a speech in his district last week by attendees calling on him to do more to reign in Trump and protect American democracy. He didn’t appear to have much patience. “I got elected,” he said...."
My biggest gripe with the Democrats is this: They managed to lose to Donald Trump. Again. I blame some more than others for this, but now they are an opposition party, which from my FB feed they seem to do fine. Until 2026 all they can do is foment as much buyer's remorse as possible. Trump seems helpful in this.
You guys just don't get it. It's not that "congressional Dems were doing too little to oppose Trump." They're opposing him all over the place all the time. But that's not how to get elected, as this election showed. Their opposition to Trump was not in dispute; the issue is that democrats literally can't see what's right in front of everyone else's eyes. Let the American people know that you're with them on two things buried deep inside every human's DNA since the dawn of humanity: 1) there are two sexes, and 2) borders matter. You can easily do that without being mean to trans people or people who want to come into the US lawfully.
I am not interested in you chasing down the rabbit hole of the Epstein files. Old news. Important people were connected to him, but nothing has come of that, and Epstein is dead.
Let's move forward with the important things that are happening now. Throwing Zelenskyy under Putin's bus. I'm so dismayed that I called the Ukraine Embassy in Washington DC in solidarity. Also, the fight to save Medicaid. And our valuable Federal employees.
Enough of this whining that Democrats need to “do something.” Elections have consequences. Trump won the trifecta—what did voters expect? Democrats should lay low. Hold their fire. Wait for dissatisfaction among the Republican electorate to build, then capitalize on it. Until that time—which is not now—formulate an agenda that can WIN elections.
The Dems can do civil disobedience on Tues while he speaks at the joint session of Congress. There will be 10’s of millions of people watching. Each time he lies a Rep or Senator can get up and turning their their back to him. Eventually, all will be standing and they can shout “Stop the Steal”. They can hold the floor and interrupt his coronation and shut him down because we all know he can’t actually do anything effective in real time.
Who can initiate the action? Murphy? AOC? Crockett? Certainly not Schumer or Jeffries, they need to get out of the way and let someone fight for our Democracy.
I want to see the part of the Epstein files that Trump is in, not that we will. Sure that will not see the light of day for decades, if ever.
I have already written off the Democratic Party. How do people who are so apparently inept keep getting elected? I am not talking about ineptness in legislative maneuvering (they have shown some skill there, in the past), but in messaging and PR and whipping up public sentiment.
Wait, I know the answer to that, talked about that before. Not again.
The idea is not that they can actually stop things (because they lack the votes)--that is not really my expectation. What should be happening, every day, all day, is pressure being put on the GoP and Trump and Musk through very loud and very clear messaging that is based in facts. Putting pressure on swing state repreentatives to maybe NOT vote for stuff and have ALL Democrats NOT vote for stuff.
Hang this crap on the people doing it, do not take part.
And please, for the love of God, don't moralize or go down the DEI/Woke rabbit hole. Stay the hell away from that and focus on the rights and fears common to ALL Americans. You get to the things you want (rights for very small groups of minorities) in the context of rights for all Americans and working to slowly and quietly shift perceptions.
it is unjust and unfair. But it is how progress actually happens. Because any forced win in stuff like this is NOT a win, the people you pissed off getting that win will turn around and undo it... and maybe worse.
I think it's good that the Democrats are moving slowly as a group on the attack. It's not good at messaging so right after an election that swept it out of power, it should pause as a group while letting individuals continue to speak authentically.
Nobody uses a squirrel as a symbol of good strategy or leadership.
The public and economic data are beginning to paint a picture Democrats can leverage that will sound more like it came from "the people".
For example I don't think focusing on the fact that people are losing their jobs is a winner. It happens all the time in America.
Following current law including union contracts is never a bad policy plank but it won't lead to any gains.
So what are the top 2 goals for Congressional Democrats right now? I don't know. Until they do, less organized speech is better.
Adding to what I wrote earlier, I think that part of the reason Democrats do not stand up for what they believe in all too often is related to the culture in Washington DC. Many of them may still see the current situation in the U.S. as Democratic vs Republican politics as usual, almost like a game of sorts, as opposed to viewing the MAGA fascist movement as the threat that it is truly is to American democracy and the American way of life.
The consultant class and all of the corporate special interest money swirling around may responsible for a lot of this complacency and poltroonery. A perfect example of this is former Barak Obama senior adviser David Axelrod advocating for Democrats not to defend wonderful programs like USAID, for example, because they don’t necessarily poll well with the American people. Bullshit! USAIID makes it so that impoverished people in Africa and other places throughout the world get the food and medicine they need to survive.
Besides sending weapons to Ukraine and funding Medicaid, food assistance, and veterans programs nothing is more in the national interest. All of the good will this program generates prevents terrorism on American soil.
A Democratic tea party does not give me hope, considering the GOP tea party got us here. It will require real people to do the work, not the crap the tea party gave the GOP. And, like other commenters here, I am not giving a dime to the dems until they show some real backbone.
In other news, looks like a complete shitshow in the WH today. I really hate our fellow Americans right now. We are a complete embarrassment.
Starting at around 25 minutes, there’s a discussion about nominating the Democratic candidate for President soon — it turns out that there’s nothing in the Democrat’s party rules that says we can’t hold our primary in 2025. If the party were to unite behind one leader, think of the potency of that voice speaking against Trump for 3 years!
As an example of things wrong with Democrats these days, I received a fundraising text yesterday from a Democrat group featuring Liz Cheney. I’m OK with her endorsement of Harris and giving her a platform and working with her against Trump. But she cannot be the face of the party at this moment.
If she was in congress right now, I’m willing to bet she would be all for gutting Medicaid to pay for tax cuts, because she “likes Trump’s policies even if she doesn’t like the man, yada, yada, yada.” That is not where I want the Democratic Party to be in 2025.
Separate note, but I am sick of hearing leadership saying this is new and they are still getting their bearings. Trump started campaigning years ago and Project 2025 was not a secret. Democratic leadership literally had time to write an “Anti-Project 2025” plan before Trump’s inauguration.
Jeffries response has been excruciatingly bad. But please don’t let Chuck Schumer out of the house. I look at these guys and wonder how we ever won anything.
I hear from Hakeem Jeffries every single day. But it's always a text, asking me to pony up more $$ via Act Blue to Dems. I like Hakeem, but I'm not giving him or Dems more $ until they show us that they have a plan.
Dems asking for money daily...??? Told them not to ask....until they show some real tangible progress against this reprehensible tsunami of repulsican misdeeds !
Dollars today are increasingly difficult to come by these chaotic times......so I have a choice...feed the billionaires at the trough...or gift the ASPCA/ ST JUDES.....
I like him too, which is what made his lack of fire about the coup even more disappointing. I’m with you on not donating to any money to the Dems until they get it together.

God DAMN POS and his toy boy JD. He will sell us out for a nickel. How DARE that F*ing coward try to tell a real man anything!
Here’s an idea.

I encourage you to listen to this podcast by Joe Trippi from mid-February:

they should absolutely do this.

Not a difficult choice at all, friends!

I'm old enough to remember a time when The Bulwark had James Carville on podcasts lauding the depth of the Democrats' bench.
Me too....Methuselah must have been a neighbor of yours as well! Good memories!
