Trump's nominations are going to begin the process of political sabotage, backstabbing and leaks to the press. His nominees are not popular in Congress and it's irrelevant what other Republicans say about nominees such as Gaetz when they can get even (which is what Republicans love to do) while staying in the shadows. And even though McCarthy is out of the picture, he still has contacts and wants to get even. This same process will play itself out once Musk and Ramaswamy start to push Congressional Republicans around. Everyone's going to be trying to grab power and financial gain, because they have no ideology behind their moves. Republicans may also be so enthralled with winning that they forget about keeping their voters happy and 2026 is right around the corner. They're also going to spend most of their time conducting investigations against Trump's enemies and holding hearings. We all know how bad they are at this, and it'll prevent them from concentrating on legislation. They love performative appearances on camera and can't govern. When Trump messes up the economy, voters will turn on Congressional Republicans. The Republican Party will implode, it's just a matter of when.
I would have believed you in 2016. But this is a MAGA movement that spent four years in the wilderness figuring out what went wrong the first time. They have learned from their mistakes. There are enough people in power who are very competent at being evil, and now they've had four years of practice and four years out of power to strategize. Take seriously their ability to accomplish whatever they want, especially now that they control the White House, Senate, House of Representatives and Supreme Court. The SC's ruling giving Trump presumptive immunity for all official acts will also turn out to be the gift that keeps on giving.
Revenge, combined with avarice and personal gain, will be the R's motivation. The American oligarchs like Musk and Bezos and the autocrats running other countries will be ready to step up and help as well. You can expect these folks to be very good, and very well-supported, in their attempts to tear down almost 250 years of the American experiment and replace it with a government that benefits them personally.
This is not a time to underestimate the Republican Party.
As we stand this morning, there are zero protections in place for what could, and likely will happen. I completely agree that the last four years have been focused on strategizing for this moment. They aren’t wasting any time it seems. What we are going to experience is an absolute mutation of government, completely unrecognizable from what we’ve known at any time in the history of this country. I am willing to bet that many of the policies that will be put in place will actually harm the constituents that put him back in the White House.

Oh yeah? They spent the whole 2023-24 term as the most dysfunctional Congress in history and kept their majority. Why should 2025-26 be any different?

I've seen multiple articles in the past couple of days quoting Republicans expressing shock and dismay at Trump's cabinet choices.
Boo hoo.
Sounds plausible. The GOP has a lot of vicious in fighting, on a good day. We can only hope they self destruct without taking us all down first.
