What is with these guys ... “He was dead as a dog, he was a dead politician. He would have been working perhaps for a law firm or doing something else,” . That's what the petulant boy king said about you less than a year ago. You know there is no conspiracy here, you just left your spine in a Florida swamp somewhere and think this is going to get you some brownie point with Agent Orange.

As a Sicilian New York expat who lives in Florida I have two important messages for Mr. Desantis.

First off all, you will never be president. The post requires raw charisma above almost all else. The list of governors whose ambition was smashed upon the rocks of their sheer unlikeability is too long to repeat here but you, sir, are simply too unlikeable to ever win a primary to say nothing of the presidency.

Second and more importantly, your name is pronounced DUH-santis. Its not DEE-Santis. Show some pride in your heritage my man. If you're going to be born into an Italian family don't sully us by trying to wasp up your name.

DeSantis figures making his big nose even more intrusive would offset his comprehensive lack of charisma, does he?

What is it with these elite Ivy grads (Trump, Stefanik, DeSantis, Hawley, etc.) that they continue to insult our intelligence? Just numbing in their idiocy.

It is all about the announcement. Nobody will care in a week whether it is the state or the feds or both looking at charges, and nobody will care about it at all in 50 days.

So who did he inform about the obvious security issues he saw while golfing with trump? Or was this while he was planning his run against trump? Doing some recon? 🤣🤣🤣

De Santis should occupy his mind wit the abundance of RUSSIAN OPERATIVES who own lots of expensive properties in SUNNY ISLES ,/ MIAMI. They are a lot more dangerous to AMERICA than that poor, demented SAP who sat in the bushes @ a Trump Golf Club.

De”Sanitizus”, an oval mouthed twerp who has accomplished the final destruction of Florida as a normal portion of America - has no conscience when it comes to self promotion. Literally, a trump wanna be.

Speaking of 'transparency', why have we yet to see, or hear about, any medical report re: the first assassination attempt? Why has there been no information on this? I have to admit, it makes me wonder if DeSantis' plan to jump in with a 'state investigation' will actually be a cover-up. I really, really hate thinking like a conspiracy theorist, but it's hard not to when Trump tries to hide so many things.

"DeSantis accused the feds of lacking transparency in their investigation of the first assassination attempt.."

Much as I hate to agree with him, he's right about this one thing. There's A LOT we don't know.

Are you making an inference that the Secret Service is doing a sh*tty job and just covering up or that there is some tangled conspiracy theory with both assassination attempts?

It's been 3 days. Should the feds give YOU a call?

I, and the phrase I quoted, referred to the FIRST assassination attempt. No need to be snarky.

This will be fun. Ultimately, ron and djt will end up like scorpions in a bottle. Their egos are so huge they can’t get over themselves.

DeSantis should have figured out by now that the Secret Service has always been concerned about Trump golfing at his golf course open to the public.

But being Trump, his golfing is more important than the lives of the agents or the public around him that may be in the line of fire.

After Reagan's assassination attempt, he stopped golfing altogether. Not because he was worried about himself, but about the other people around him.

Obama always golfed on military bases.

I presume if he golfed on a military course or anything other than a course he owns he might have to play by the rules and thus would find it more difficult to claim he beat everyone else every time. Although at this point he can pretty much claim anything and a segment of the population will believe it.

Agreed, this is on Trump. It's not possible to secure an entire public golf course. Nor should we have to pay for it. If McConnell wasn't such a coward we would not be in this mess.

The response for those of us residents of Florida to the DeSantis press conference was: "Well, of course he did."

Just like his interference on the Amendment 4 initiative. Just like his attempts to turn state parks into golf course resorts. Just like his creation of an "election integrity" police force.

Nothing surprises us anymore here in the Free Banana Republican State of Florida.

Desantis is still licking his wounds from his run for president. Like Scar in a Disney movie, he wants to be king. He has hurt our state and is grasping at anything that can make him relevant again.

Thanks for this piece, Caputo. Thanks also for pointing out the utter hypocrisy of DeSantis's sudden commitment to

transparency. His administration has been the most petty,

obstructive, deceitful, secretive & retaliatory of any in my 26 years as a South Florida resident & news reporter. Next, Marc, will you please look at what he's doing to hamper passage of Florida's Amendment 4, protecting abortion access? DeSantis's election goons are now casting doubt on petition signatures that enabled the ballot question. This after the governor also convened his own panel of allies to draft a misleading financial impact statement that will appear on ballots. Thank God for term limits - and for the quoted Republicans in this article willing to call out the off-putting, unlikeable & self-serving governor for his sniveling political posturing ... Thanks, Caputo & Bulwark!
