I'm more with the school as it exists than not, in principle. In practice, oh dear me...

The whole notion of a charter public school is fair game for debate, as is the notion of "at-will" employment.

Read the great Dan Kois interview.

If you come away from that deeper in the trench of your choice, I weep for you.

Subtitled:

Charlie, don't jump the shark, fall on the sword, lose the plot, etc on this item.

Very definitely not a simple binary here folks.

Idiots to the left of me, idiots to the right of me to be laughed off on lots of things. But not Trump. He is laughable, but far too dangerous to laugh off. At least one of the possible prosecutions needs to take and soon.

I just can't believe what I'm seeing in America 2023. What Trump, DeSantis, and the rest of the anti-woke clowns are preaching is just leading to the dumming down of the US. Barnes and Noble now has a display of Banned Books in the US and the past president is resurrecting WACO as a lesson in anti-government bravado. God Help Us, United States.

It’s supposed to be a “classics” school. I’m old enough >70 to have taken Freshman Western Civ the first half of which was the Greco-Roman tradition. The Greeks considered love between men superior to love with a woman and back then there was no freak out over homosexuality. In fact back then what mattered was who was the “active” partner and who was the “passive” partner. Women of course were automatically “passive” and for men it depended

Lemme get this straight...... Michaelangelo's David is pornographic, but truck nuts are manly. MAGA.

Meanwhile, does anyone notice how every accusation Trump makes is actually an admission of guilt on his own actions? Why & who would do such a thing? "Only a degenerate psychopath that truely hates the USA!"

If David was holding an AR15 in front of his junk, they would make this the State of Floridas state statue.

It's all parents' rights, until an anti-trans teacher wants to ignore the wishes of the parents, and insists on calling a trans girl a boy, or a trans boy a girl (like the teacher in Sarah's focus group this week). Then, it's all teachers' rights, and screw the parents.

Years ago there was an exhibit from the Victoria and Albert museum at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. One of the pieces was a fig-leaf shield that was specially made to strategically cover a certain body part of the the statue of David (I don’t remember if it was the original or a copy) when Queen Victoria went to see it. We haven’t made much progress sent then. And if these people had a clue what their kids can access on the Internet . . . . . . .. . . .

Barney Bishop III, explained:

"Well, we’re Florida, OK? Parents will decide. Parents are the ones who are going to drive the education system here in Florida."

Florida? 'Nuff said. No need to explain any more.

What is really sad is that every time I read one of Trump's tweets, I hear it in Trevor Noah's fake-Trump voice. His (Trump's) rants are so weird that no comedy writer could improve on them.

Re: Florida's Idiocracy - All hail the Southern District of the Republic of Gilead! It's coming folks, it's the real Apocalypse. The self-appointed morality police are harking for the days of early Salem, MA, where extreme censorship was precipitated by horny teenagers of an ultra-represive society

Part serious/part flippant, if an overwhelming majority of Floridians are idiots, does democracy not entail they enjoy a state government of/by/for idiots?

That said, this principal had no idea at all that Florida parents could be Florida men? Which leads to a very serious question: if one wants to be a serious educator AND enjoy the Caribbean climate, shouldn't one pursue such employment in the US Virgin Islands?

Talk about people DEMANDING a new Dark Age.

Speaking of idiocracy....

The picture of Trump with a baseball bat (adjacent to a picture of Alvin Bragg) links to a "NationalFile" item dated 3/20 [https://nationalfile.com/just-10-of-manhattan-residents-voted-for-anti-trump-da-in-2021-election/ ]asserting that only 10% of Manhattan residents voted for Bragg. The full text of that item in all its idiocratic glory reads as follows:

"Alvin Bragg, the notoriously corrupt and anti-Trump Manhattan District Attorney who is expected to have President Trump arrested on Tuesday, won the votes of just 10.79% of Manhattanites when he was 'elected' in 2021.

"According to the 2020 Census, Manhattan is home to 1,694,251 people, serving as the heart of New York City’s commerce engine. Of those more than 1.6 million Manhattanites, just 182,828 of them cast their votes in favor of Alvin Bragg, the anti-Trump District Attorney who’s expected to have the 45th President arrested on Tuesday in a case of brazen political persecution that’s historically unprecedented in the United States."

That's right, the author (Frankie Stockes) used as his denominator the entire 2020 population of Manhattan (including infants, children, and others who are not eligible to vote). In actuality, Bragg received over 80% of votes actually cast in his election (https://ballotpedia.org/Alvin_Bragg_Jr. ) which, of course, is the only metric that matters.

Using that approach, in the 2020 election, Trump "won the votes of" just 22.4% of the entire 2020 population of the United States. Unfortunately (for Trump and his followers), Biden "won the votes of" 24.5% of the entire 2020 US population. Trump and his followers constantly bleat about his 74 million votes cast as "more than any" previous president. But he wasn't running against any previous president. He was running against Joe Biden, and they always leave out the part about Biden getting over 7 million more votes. (Even more unfortunately for Trump, Biden won ~56.9% of the electoral votes vs. ~43.1% for Trump, which, in a presidential election is unfortunately the only metric that matters.)

I'm not sure if Mr. Stockes (and Mr. Trump) are actually stupid enough to fall for this kind of innumeracy or if they just think Trump's supporters are that stupid. In either case, as Forrest Gump's mama told him, "Stupid is as stupid does."
