Thank you for a truthful explanation of the women’s boxing issue

It's a good explanation of the "facts", but it backgrounds the truly nasty political nature of the issue. Here is how Giorgia Meloni, Italy's neo-fascist premier is framing the issue: "Muslim man hits Italian woman on the face under the dismissive eye of "woke" international organizations."

It reeks of transphobia, islamophobia and racism with a background of replacement theory, and fear of those pesky muslims invading the christian west.

We shouldn’t believe our lying eyes. I saw a man punch a woman and they call it “sport.”

Perhaps you can read too? There are some good sources explaining the whole shebang ;)

Like “she” has XY chromosomes. No woman has XY chromosomes

That is untrue. Someone with XY chromosomes and complete androgen insensitivity syndrome IS a female - and far more so than me, as I have XX chromosomes but my body CAN respond to testosterone, so I'll bulk up and gain muscle if I take it.

There is far more to sexual phenotype than mere chromosome count!

The evidence continues to pile up that those two boxers are in fact male. Watching the bout against the Italian woman who quit after 45 seconds left no doubt in my mind. If the IOC continues to keep its head in the sand, it will destroy women's sports. Except perhaps gymnastics - women seem to have a natural advantage there.

No evidence has been presented at all.

That's not true. But I will let you figure it out ;)

It has been widely reported. Just as it's been widely reported that the person is identified as female on their passport. But did you actually watch that match? It was less than a minute. The Italian contestant took a single punch which broke her nose. She said she had never experienced a punch of such forces. And again, I come back to what I saw: that was a man punching a woman

You should do a critical assesment when looking for sources. If you do, you'll find that there is no info about the XY chromosome -which by the way if true would mean she is intersex, not trans ; and that the organization that excluded her (IBA) is the one that created the XY protocol rumor, after she beat a russian woman, while being primarily financed by Gazprom. Essentially, this whole thing also reeks of rusian disinformation, and the usual useful idiots are doing the work of the Kremlin are doing their bidding because it confirms their racist, islamophobic and transphobic beliefs. Quite sad to see such an uniformed reader at the Bulwark.

You have made no comment on what I saw with my own eyes - I defy you to tell me that 45 seconds was a "fair" fight.

As I understand from IOC's public comments, their sole grounds for allowing this person and the other one who's sex is disputed is what their passports said. I've seen lots of assertions that Algeria is trans and homophobic - I would say that's highly likely - and so would not allow a man who says they're a woman to be given that status. But that doesn't amount to proof of anything much it was the IBA which has asserted they both had XY chromosones. I don't think either the IOC or the IBA are organisations we should believe without proof. I too have seen the assertions that this is all Putin propaganda but I have also seen lots of stuff pro these two individuals that amounts to unfounded assertions/conspiracy theories.

Please take JVL's constant exhortions to us to not descend into insults.

At the very least, surely we can agree there are unanswered questions here?

1) I see a box fight with one opponent conceding.

2) Yes, we can agree that there is a lot of stuff unknown.

Just posted on X (of course, this isn't proof. But you know the saying about walks like a duck .... in this case, punched like a man)

The European Vice President of the World Boxing Organization has come forward to confirm that Algerian boxer Imane Khelif is male.

István Kovács says he warned the Olympic Committee about several male boxers in the women's category, but nothing was done.
