JVL, you are great. So don't take this the wrong way. Please resign from the Bulwark and go to work for the Biden campaign immediately. Your country needs you.
Why is there an assumption that Trump is more physically or mentally/emotionally fit than Biden and this issue is never discussed and is, in fact avoided?
I’m not afraid of work! Went to Fetterman rallies, called voters PA tried to disenfranchise and did a bunch of voting banks for the Wisconsin Supreme Court. With the ungerrymandered maps in Michigan that allowed voters to re-elect Whitmer in Michigan and win both houses, I think the odds are good Biden will win there. The recent 11 point win by Protasiewicz in Wisconsin also gives me hope that the maps will be less rigged in the presidential election. Pennsylvania might be close but Shapiro is popular and growing percentage of minority and young college voters probably will make it bluer than it was in 2020. 🤞🏽
Trump’s word salad falls somewhere between that of the Sphinx and the devil. His constant repetitions somehow turn to truth. I suppose you get used to equivocating/suggesting without saying when you are constantly being sued. He remains a real danger. I completely agree with JVL on that.
I am very uncertain about Biden just now. If he can stop Trump from being elected, then almost nothing else matters. But he will be reaching a point where people naturally begin to experience degrees of cognitive decline. He may survive, but have other troubles. Still, each of us has feet of clay in one way or another. Someone else might win the Presidency and die before they could even be sworn in. Given all that, I would like to see how Kamala Harris works as an administrator. I saw her when she was traveling the country before the 2020 election. I was hoping to be impressed.I was not. She may be good at questioning people appearing before the Senate, but what else can she do? We have seen so little of her in the past two plus years. That is Biden’s doing. He needs to fix that pronto.
Your suggestion to Mr. Biden on how to fight the age question is lovely. Never run from the obvious, but meet it head-on. By directly addressing these questions, he will take some steam out of the Republican attacks. As for Mr. Trump's statement saying Mr. Biden has lost it, I suggest that Mr. Biden play some youtube videoes of Mr. Trump speaking some 20 years ago. Compare his speaking then with the rambling, incoherent man speaking today, and you might be watching a mental decline right before your eyes.
Absolutely spot on, JVL. One way that Biden could turn around Trump’s comments is to make the same observation: what happened to Trump? The guy used to be funny. He used to be successful. It’s a mystery why he went from Donald Trump to Don Rickles, why he feels the need to punch down EVERY time. And he used to be more bipartisan. He supported Democrats. He was invited to and attended President Clinton’s daughter’s wedding. There are those pictures of him with Bill and Hilary. He looks very comfortable. Very friendly. Now he’s like Moe from the Three Stooges, always giving the slap on the back of the head. It’s like the presidency made him even more angry. That’s not a good thing for guys our age.
1. Go back to the WaPo, maybe 2018, in which Haley described Jared F'in' Kushner as the "secret genius" of the administration. Who's _non compos mentis here_? 2. Have you seen Trump? How does that guy not count as too old? 3. You know why Biden is an excellent president? Because he takes the job seriously. It turns out that's more important then whether you went to Yale Law or whatever.
I’m 50 years old, and I’ve personally met 13 different people who didn’t make it to my current age. They range from people who died in various
accidents anywhere from their early teens to their mid 20s, to kidney failure, to drug overdose, to cancer and heart attack. I’m fortunate enough to still have both parents, but I know there’s a solid chance I won’t in another 15 years.
It is what it is. But what also is what it is? I don’t care how old Joe Biden is or whether Kamala Harris would be President some day, because if it were her name on the ballot instead of Biden’s against Donald Trump, I’d still rather have her than him.
This follows one of the guiding principles of my life, admit or even preemptively name your flaws and failures bc 1)they are usually patently obvious to everyone else 2) it disarms your opponent 3)it builds a bridge of empathy and trust with other humans who also know they are imperfect. See also, ted lasso and brene brown, and less popular these days thanks to poor representation, Jesus.
This is my mantra. I am a product manager, and I have crippling imposter syndrome, so it is my standard behavior to admit my flaws and to accept blame. Better to get it all out in the open
JVL, you are spot on re Biden’s addressing his age and his continued support of Harris as his VP. Let’s hope we hear more from him along these lines.
My idea for Kamala:
Sept 2024, Challenge Trump to a one-on-one televised debate. Rules:
2 podiums, 20 ft apart facing each other. No moderator, no audience. Microphones to be automatically switched on/off. Format for each topic:
Candidate A: mic on for 3 min
Candidate B: mic on for 3 min
Candidate A: mic on for 1 min
Candidate B: mic on for 1 min
If Trump accepts, he gets smoked. If he declines, She throws serious shade at the “Biden’s gonna die, She’s not worthy” argument

Sorry to hear about your dad Karen. My good friends both have parents over 90, both thriving. They worry about Covid all the time.
I don’t know. We could say the same about trump being off, not right, unfit. It’s not his age. It’s just him.

Who were you rooting for in the matchup between your hometown New York Rangers and those Garden State interlopers New Jersey Devils?

Better her than the insane evil one.

Love this!
That’s only because we’re old enough to remember who Don Rickles and the Three Stooges are, Sandy.

Yes, me too. But what about that 40K of swing voters in MI, WI & PA? If you're one of them, great! If not, we've got work to do, my friend.
I was 43 when I had a heart attack, so, yes, I am quite aware that nobody is guaranteed a tomorrow.
Oh I get it. I’m sorry if I misread.
