Just how corrupt is Adams?

Expand full comment

Thanks, Adrian — I tripped over “migrants are not illegal immigrants” and had to go do some reading about the distinctions: migrants, immigrants, asylum seekers, refugees. It is a complex issue that the other news coverage I read is busily making simple. We don’t do nuance at all well, much less complex, and the incoming administration doesn’t do them at all—need something to distract from the price of eggs and gas. Can foresee learning something with each of your pieces.

This may be rather cynical, but I think Adams was already under fire by NYC citizens for what many were perceiving as unmanageably large levels of immigration before his corruption troubles fully ignited. The odor of corruption has surrounded him and many in his administration from the beginning of his time in office. That he's happy to try to solve his Gregg Abbott bussing-exacerbated "immigrant problem" by facilitating Trump regime deportations should not be surprising. This is not a man steeped in high moral character.

Great piece Adrian, something I haven't heard about before now, though it doesn't surprise me.

Thank you! Hoping to keep elevating and amplifying stories like this that aren’t getting enough coverage

I do what I can, I don't actually have any friends or family who do online politics, but, I do spread it word of mouth and on some of my other subs...

It's both foolish and a perversion of justice for the DA's office to being going after Adams so aggressively. What he did a good portion of the public wouldn't even consider a crime, and he's looking at prison for the rest of his life over it. That's about a prosecutor trying to build their resume and career, not about justice.

No offense, but crime is still crime.

As long as state and local officials do not actively prevent or attempt to prevent federal officials from enforcing federal law in their jurisdictions through force or deception, it's hard to see how the Trump Administration has much it can do against "sanctuary" policies that go no further than non-cooperation without running afoul of the Anti-Commandeering and the Anti-Coercion Principles. I have no doubt that they'll try, and it will be interesting to see how this Supreme Court, which is protective both of Trump and of those Principles, will rule.

A highly desired spectacle for Trump. NYC’s highest official capitulating and welcoming him in front of city hall. MAGA’s hardcore salivating over their dream of cruelty to immigrants of color. We have been numbed to child separations in the past so Steve Miller will take every opportunity to show more cruelty partly to satisfy his own white nationalist desires and to lower our moral standards for the next raids. Supporting Catholic and other religious leaders on their pushback to the cruelty will be essential for me. The article is an excellent example of what is needed to help inform the general public. Kudos.

Adams running for re-election this year is laughable: his favorability rating is down to 12, but it was only 23 BEFORE the indictment. He will, however, rate a 100% with Trump and his deportation enforcers. Eric ain't gonna do time. He is a crook and hypocrite, just like Felon 34.

It's actually nice to read an article here where people are on the record and named in their quotes. Granted the Cuomo's "ally" was too afraid to provide a name but I find this refreshing to read.

And, Adams appeared to be slimy from the get go, not sure what NY saw in him at all.

Two things: 1. Adams has one more choice. Go home.

2. I hope the Catholic church's stance on deportations is stronger than their stance on the molestation of little boys

Yeah…if I still believed in God, I’d be looking for a new church to go to.

I'm afraid I quit attending any church years ago. There are far too many predators who slither into churches, pose as good "Christians" and hide behind the Bible to sexually harass and assault women and children.

For a pardon from Trump, I am sure Adams will also be presenting him with a Key to the City... as well as the people without documents. I wonder how the governor will respond? If Adams does this, he will not win another term.

Adrian - I applaud your 2 articles this week. First you demonstrated insight & understanding of the broad scope of immigration issues, and that you notice major media isn't adequately explaining much. Today you drilled into a "local" story in the biggest American city, shining light on the threads that connect immigration issues and political power - really good city reporting on this one.

Yeah I'm a fan in week 1. Please keep 'em comin!

Yet another tawdry political spectacle for us all to enjoy as another oily groveling, another bending of the knee to curry favor with the False Messiah unfolds before a jury has even been assembled. Cannot wait for the previews! If EA becomes a convicted felon, he qualifies to sit at the right hand of the Felon auditioning for a post in the coming autocracy. The ratings for The Political Apprentice show could be record breaking!

Adams is a corrupt clown. Another example of people voting against their interests. Scott Stringer and Kathryn Garcia would have been great. The fact he’s even considering running again is bonkers.

I'm under the impression that he is facing state charges. How does a pardon from drumpf work in that situation?

Expand full comment

Trump can pardon federal crimes; Hochul, state crimes.

Expand full comment

I realize that. Hence my question. If this is a state crime, how does Adams angling for a drumpf pardon work?

Expand full comment

It doesn't. (He's angling for a T pardon because the only crimes he's under indictment for so far, to the best of my knowledge, are federal.)

Eric Adams is a crook who should be removed from office, and would be if crime wasn't in fashion to accommodate criminals. Re-election? That should not be on the table. Why would he even think it was possible? Are we that devoid of logic and morals?

Cuomo's political troubles aren't from Progressives, they're from his inability to keep his hands to himself. So tired of "New York Liberals" who turn more MAGA than MAGA as soon as people realize they're actually criminals.

Make Prison Great Again.

Kate - in MAGA circles, Cuomo's behaviour gets a free pass (maybe even a cabinet nomination or two). So yeah, a party switch might be his ticket back into politics - principles aren't expected
