Andrew Egger genius suggestion for Biden to take the acuity test and transform it into an ad is brilliant. I hope the White House comma department is listening!

How can Trump comment on the 80th anniversary of D-Day? He doesn’t know what D-Day is/was!!! Besides, why not tell EVERYONE, again, and again, and again that he did nothing wrong on Jan 6th. The good news is, he’ll be able to tell a Jan 6th jury officially after Biden is re-elected he did nothing wrong. It’s all bullshit, but the nice thing about the justice system is, it works!! It moves slow, but it works. VOTE!

Regarding the Ayaan Hirsi Ali thing:

The tragedy is, she’s only half wrong here.

China, Russia, and their allies really are trying to subvert and crack up the democratic world; they consider it, and us, a destabilizing threat to their governments by our very example. They will use whatever argument and ally they can to that end.

Where Ali goes wrong is where she connects the dots.

Ali’s made a career out of doing battle with the politically correct and the woke. Naturally, she obsesses over those groups she’s been in a deathmatch with, and points the finger at them as the primary “agents of subversion”.

Her bullshit blame-casting, like all bullshit, contains a tiny fragment of truth. It’s true that, specifically, pro-Hamas protests are being ably used by foreign propaganda right now to pry Western politics apart. More broadly, it’s true that residual leftist myopia about foreign policy, and their related historical inability to see the value of democracy in the world, is a strategic weakness both Russia and China can exploit.

But if Ali thinks those things are the real “subversion” happening in the U.S., she is choosing to misunderstand the situation.

Trump, and the MAGA right, are the dearest answer to China and Russia’s malign prayers in American politics right now, and it’s not a close contest. A Trump victory would essentially seal Ukraine’s and Taiwan’s respective fates. America, as we know it, would end as a beacon of hope in the world, as a criminal took charge and began purging American society as a campaign of revenge. The old 19th century maxim of “might makes right” would replace any Reagan-esque doctrine of the “city on a hill”, permanently.

For these reasons and more, Trump and MAGA are Russia and China’s most effective allies in “subverting” the United States. Their propaganda all but states this out loud, day in, day out. Ali does not understand this, because she does not want to understand it.

Biden’s age again? Here’s my take…if I pulled up to a drive through burger place and ordered a meal, would I prefer one that was made slowly and with care (even if it wasn’t perfect or hot on delivery) OR would I prefer one laced with arsenic by an employee that is trying to ruin the whole company. Guess American needs to decide…..

Great piece, as always, by Cathy Young. I have admired Ayaan Hirsi Ali since she first burst on the public scene for her courage, poise, grace, and ferocious intelligence. She is a true hero, and it is heartbreaking to learn that she has lost her way in the conspiracy theory fever swamps. I hope and pray that she finds her way back soon.

When Trump was President members of his Cabinet thought about implementing the provisions of the 25th Amendment to remove him from office because they saw how deranged he was. And he has gotten much worse since then.

In late October 2023 I asked my Congressman - Dan Goldman - if he had, or ever heard any questions about Biden's mental abilities from people who interacted with President Biden. He had no such concerns and did not hear any from others. Moreover, he went on to tell me that on October 7th President Biden called him to make sure that he and his family (who were in Israel for a family celebration) were safe. Goldman also noted that Biden told him about the impressive number of things he had already done to protect Israel and try to contain the fallout from Hamas' murderous attacks. At that critical moment Biden demonstrated that he had the wisdom and skills we would wish our Commander-in-chief to have. Time and Time again Biden has proven that his mental abilities have been enhanced by the wisdom and knowledge he gained over the years.

The only thing Trump has gained over the years is more ways to pity himself and more people to hate and belittle.

Wow, this is the sight that claims to not "both sides" it. First, calling the WSJ Murdoch hit piece "provocative" is just the kind of echo of the right wing propaganda machine that keeps people from knowing the truth. The hit piece from Wall Street Journal was launched right after the guilty verdict to distract. This gives legit backing for Fox, Newsmax, Facebook, Twitter, TicTok, AM radio to take it to the next level. If you live in a swing state you cannot turn on a TV or open a computer without an ad telling the audience that Joe Biden has dementia. Joe taking a test is not going to counter that. Next, Biden's aids were not "working the refs" or "accusing the WSJ of malpractice." They were simply stating the truth. The WSJ hit piece totally ignored Dems who were in the room that told the truth and ran with MAGA lies. Finally, the only way to show that Joe is not to old to be president if for Joe to be president. Hey, good news, Joe is president of the USA so he can just do his job. Get a peace deal for Gaza. Executive order to stop border crossing if they exceed 2500 per day. Give an inspiring speech at Normandy. MAGA is going to MAGA. But there is enough anti-MAGA to win in November if we can stick together. MAGA will certainly not question their leader no matter how deranged he gets. Biden's age is simply not an issue. Kamala is there to step in if need be. Oh yes, she is black and a woman and that will bother some. But it will also inspire others. And before you dismiss Kamala, please think of the clowns auditioning to be the convicted felons VP. Kamala is the tickets secret weapon. And the proof that Joe is not too old to be president is that Joe is doing a great job being president. Running an administration is a team sport. I'm surprised conservatives who used to be against the power of a autocrat would not realize that.

The cricket upset reminds my of this old piece by Charles Krauthammer.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/opinions/2002/02/20/who-needs-gold-medals/2ecb445f-c977-4d4a-b0a9-76b1c7b8411f/

I do think it's gauche to beat Pakistan at cricket. No one in America cares about cricket. We should have let them have the win as a consolation prize for being sandwiched between the Taliban and Modi.

There is an inherent risk in taking the test. What if the test shows signs of deterioration? He’s old—loss of acuity is hardly uncommon in people his age. He’d be obliged to release the results, even if they’re unfavorable. Better to own old age, and say his opponent is old and crazy.

Amazing that nobody is requesting testing of Mitch McConnell who froze on camera several times.

As to your last sentence - he has said it in politer words. :-)

And no matter how good the results were, the "impartial" press would portray them as mediocre at best, and the Right Wing Infotainment Complex -- well, we know what they would do. To use a baseball expression that, to the joy of the authors I do not think appears in cricket, this would be the epitome of an unforced error.

As JVL has suggested, Biden should own the age issue as Reagan did, with a mix of self-deprecating humor and occasional well-aimed quips, not with test results.

If Biden took an acuity test, it would be like Obama’s birth certificate—never enough. His critics would say it was fake and rigged. Why feed the fire? Biden should keep giving speeches, like today and yesterday and the SOTU. That’s a good look for him.

Wisdom, wisdom, wisdom! Senior citizens like Biden have learned so much, especially him!

He has been in Washington for years so he understands better than most how things work.

He’s been watching world events so understands how things work there also.

He also is lessen driven by ego

Wisdom- younger people just don’t have it.

The Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) that Trump brags about acing is not an acuity test — it’s an assessment for cognitive dysfunction. It’s possible to score quite high on the MoCA and still have dementia. Many, many people who administer the MoCA in our work believe Trump is showing clear signs of cognitive decline. Biden is not. He’s showing signs of being 82 but is mentally clear. Democrats should keep hammering away at the facts — Trump is a fraud, a felon, a rapist, and a traitor. He is morally and mentally unfit to be president. It’s a simple argument, and it’s the truth.

To quote George Conway, vote for Joe, not the psycho.

Since I can't comment on Cathy's piece.

The American revolution did not pave the way for the abolition of slavery. It specifically sought to protect it as an institution. If we'd stayed a British colony we likely would have seen it banned earlier than it was.

It's pretty easy to see this fact when you consider that most escaped slaves took up arms with the British forces, not the Americans.
