Yeah, there's a lot of information about it on the internet. And about pretty much anything and everything that the human mind can conceive of. If you can imagine it, somebody has posted something about it. Which of course makes it about as true as Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, Amelia Earhart being spotted in Paris, John Kennedy and Adolf Hitler hanging out on an island, and anything else you want to think when your fantasy world is allowed to run unchecked. It is the ultimate permission structure -- because someone said it on TV (DJT) or it is on the internet (Hagerty), you have automatic license to present it as fact, and no one can tell you that you are wrong. Next they'll cite the National Enquirer as their go-to source for in-depth factual coverage. The more I think these people can't get any worse, the more they take the shovels and keep digging. Are there any Republicans left who think that accountability and intellectual honesty are a requirement in order to both wield power and be taken seriously?
"Are there any Republicans left who think that accountability and intellectual honesty are a requirement in order to both wield power and be taken seriously?"
Well, I saw Lincoln recently say not to trust what I read on the internet, so that sounds pretty intellectually honest. And he is a Republican. A lot of people didn't know that, but he's getting more and more recognition.
Yes, there are honorable Republicans left in our Country. However, they live in their own silos avoiding politics as much as they possibly can. These people are not on X or TikTok and only use Facebook to post family pictures. Their parents and grandparents voted Republican and they follow the family pattern. They believe if a Republican is in office, the stock market will treat them well. These Republicans reject MAGA as being boorish, rude and destructive, but have a most difficult time believing MAGA destruction could hurt Them. Rather than scorn them as “Elites,” think of them as The Ostrich Group of Republicans.
This stupid statement is an excuse for just following the party line. It says "I'm following the party line on this. I'll say I saw conflicting reports online and that'll stop the reporters from repeatedly asking me about it. And who knows, crazy stuff is sometimes true. "
Given that the Senate Republicans include such luminaries as Marsha Blackburn and Tommy Tuberville, it is an open question whether “Senator” implies exercising adult responsibilities.
It is so mindboggling, I can't figure out anymore if these people are pretending to be stupid or are just plain stupid. In the end it seems it doesnt matter, they'll amplify anything they think will help them politically, whether it's true or false is irrelevent to them.
And sadly, how many news agencies have descended into the depths of hell, I mean entered the city of Springfield, just to cover a bogus story being disseminated by “right-wing” conspiracy theorists?
They’re treating this story like it has wings, as opposed to the new and improved Comet Ping Pong & Pizza conspiracy, or better known as Pizzagate.
More than 20% of Americans believe in Flat Earth Theory, or more than 50 million people. Do we give these people a microphone and bully pulpit? Just asking for a friend!….:)
" Are there any Republicans left who think that accountability and intellectual honesty are a requirement in order to both wield power and be taken seriously?"
All these people end up sounding like your crazy uncle at Thanksgiving who is rambling about the things he's seen online. It's wild that Republicans have any chance of winning any race at this point. How can people look at any of this and think "those people should be making decisions."
"Trump did nothing to help us during his four years in office, he doesn't even have a vague plan to help us were he in office again, and if I really think about it he's only in it for himself, but his extreme fearmongering tickles my amygdala and triggers an involuntary response so of course we need him!"
This gentleman is also a US Senator. You would think he would have better sense, perhaps be a little more skeptical. I guess they don't teach critical thinking skills In Tennessee schools.
Ultimately the problem is how low our collective standards have become, and how little we care about anything other than whether or not someone thinks like we do. Tell us not what we need to know, rather what we want to hear. Their personal conduct does not matter as long as their position on a vital issue is in line with my own. Just tell me what party they are affiliated with and that's good enough. As long as technology continues to dumb us down and do our thinking for us, and we fail to demand quality over quantity, we will continue to allow the lowest common denominator to prevail. I'd like to ask them: if it is not a good business model, or a good model for success anywhere else, why is it so acceptable in politics?
"Their personal conduct does not matter as long as their position on a vital issue is in line with my own"
Totally agree with everything you wrote, except that vital issues, I believe, have no place whatsoever in how MAGA voters view Trump, or any other MAGA_centric candidate. It's all about hating the people they have been taught to hate for the last three decades by everyone from Rush to Laura Loomer.
Voter: "Do you hate the people Rush taught me to hate?"
As of last year 45% of Americans identify themselves as Republicans. I'm sure there are some who will say to themselves "Well, that's not me. I'm not easily fooled." and don't see themselves as part of the problem.
Or, they say, I understand this is gibberish BUT I don’t like that my schools/ERs/town services are overburdened by people THE GOVT decided to settle here, and so I’m going to support the guy making the biggest noise about it.
Polling after the debate has the number of GOP voters stating Trump won at about 36-37%. That leaves 63-64% of GOP voters that think he lost. I've always felt the true MAGA cultists were less that 40% of the GOP vote. Harris does have an opportunity to pick up some more GOP voters. More GOP'rs need to follow Dick and Liz's example.

As to that last, maybe. But clearly not in numbers sufficient to make any difference.

Vote Gloria!
It clearly does not.

I'll take this one. No.
Yes. Both of those are actually grounds for expulsion.
All these people end up sounding like your crazy uncle at Thanksgiving who is rambling about the things he's seen online. It's wild that Republicans have any chance of winning any race at this point. How can people look at any of this and think "those people should be making decisions."
Those people shouldn’t be running a preschool, let alone a country.
These people shouldn’t be running a car wash!
"These people shouldn’t be running a car wash!"
Unless it's in Breaking Bad.
Yet, voters do just that. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cy0nerwe8rro

Yikes! That was a scary read….

I live in TN. You guess correctly. The tv people said it, so it must be so.

Candidate: "Yes"
Voter: "Then I'm for you"
Fair point. They are proof that negative advertising works.
I agree.

But will they?
Depends on how scared they are of a decompensating Trump and his potential replacement by a theocratic piece of scum hypocrite.
I've heard conflicting reports too. Bill Hagerty is fit to be a member of the US Senate?
There's a lot of information on the Internet talking about this.
