"I think of Swift as speaking to George W. Bush and Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan, and to Condoleezza Rice and John Kelly and Jim Mattis. They are all patriots and public servants whose careers have been marked by doing their duty. If Taylor Swift can step up and speak out, surely they can too."

A recent Bulwark speculated that they may be hesitant for fear of their own safety. That's understandable if not excusable. After the chants of "Hang Mike Pence" it is painfully clear that a small minority of MAGAs are evil enough to inflict physical harm to anyone who goes against the cult. The irony is that the ones most at risk of being victims of that out-of-control at rage are the conservatives and Republicans the cult desperately needs, not liberals like Taylor Swift, who were written off long ago. But many citizens have faced far greater risks, and made the ultimate sacrifice, to protect their Republic from evil dictators. Now we have one - with an army of protectors, and no more "guardrails" - ready to attack from within. Come on, fellow patriots, you know what you have to do. How about an "October Surprise?"
