Before Trump went all in on it, this kind of thing was so transparently self-serving and stupid that one would think people would see through it. We had no idea just how well it would work (to the point that a mob took over the Capitol). Neither did conventional R politicians. But, now they do, so R politicians are almost all in lockstep on this tactic.

And if Trump does badly, they can blame CNN, Bash and Tapper....which they may do anyway
