As Trump has dragged the bulk of the right to the outer extremity of the political horseshoe, the Left--if such a thing exists anymore--has scattered its tiniest bits and pieces along the way on the opposing side of that same horseshoe. Gravity being immutable but not a perfect force. The majority of Democrats have settled firmly in the middle where most voters reside idealistically. And they find the stubborn remnants of those that stayed behind. It is gratifying to see that collective reclaim American bedrock: 1) Pride in Country 2) Law and Order 3) Fundamental fairness and compassion 4) Projection of those strengths. Meanwhile the Right teeters on the distant end of said horseshoe where values are: 1) Childish emotional disregulation 2) Me, me, me 3) Grievance over imagined injuries 4) Burn-it-all-down. The adults--left and right-- have finally coalesced squarely in the middle. Where we admit, "this ain't perfect, but it's not bad either." It's winning time.

I am an independent and I was thrilled with the majority of the DNC. I have been waiting for years for the D party to pick up patriotism from the faux patriots on the RW🙄 (especially since maga). No party owns the American flag! The Dem party can also be against police abuse while supporting law & order. They can support teaching the actual true complex history of our nation alongside the great history of our nation and not be shy at all about being proud patriots. I hope they don’t forget this lesson. 🇺🇸💯

Did Bart Simpson cut Vance's hair?

Bret Baier and Martha McCallum are not journalists. They should be nowhere near a debate.

Adam K. is pretty savvy. He's banking on a new Republican Party after Trump is finally sidelined, and if he runs for Prez, he will have the votes of many grateful Dems. Pretty smart cookie.

Not sure about "banking" but certainly he is "positioned". The questions remans, can the Rs shake the crazy and return to their roots. I think not, but am hardly sold on my own position (or ability to predict the future). It just seems unlikely. The "hate" runs deep and I can't help but notice, I feel no reciprocal hate. Just pity and sadness that the Party of Lincoln has come to this.

In response to Trump's "Where's Hunter?" I ask, "Where's Melania?"

LMAOOO. How did this guy ever win a senate seat? I'm going to enjoy watching Tim Walz mop the floor with him during the VP debate.

As I am reading your comment, I can only think of the absurdity of a VP debate in the event of a Trump bailout from one. I hope it happens. It will put the lie to Trump yet again.

Good question about Vance's senate seat. And he ran against Tim Ryan, who is a super guy from a red area of Ohio! My home state really let me down when they voted in Vance.

I really believe that if the national Democratic Party had really supported Ryan with some resources, he would have won.

OMG. Re: Cheap Shots - watch as JD Vance auditions for the role of most awkward, charmless, out-of-touch, man-not-of-the-people politician formerly owned by Ron de Santis!

Now there's a debate I would NOT like to watch: Vance vs DeSantis.

Shay-D Vance is the only person that can make a donut run "weird". But in this case it goes beyond weird, he's downright creepy. Creepy to the degree of needing to call a coworker over to stand at the counter while you get his order because you don't know if he's going to make a pass at you or pull out his wiener.

Heaven forbid she demonstrate gratitude. Something the orange-streaked-menace is incapable of. That's how I heard his criticism--defining again for me what we are dealing with.

Expand full comment

You know, that particular point you make is astutely observed and had completely escaped me I' ashamed to say. I saw it more as what an idiot he is. You are so right to identify that broader, darker truth. So important to keep front of mind that 'gratitude' is not something he ever feels. My goodness, the litany of reasons of why he is so unfit for office is almost infinite.

Phew! Thanks for that reminder about the debate Bill, I'd almost lost my ability to feel anxious :) :) Feet on the ground kids, feet on the ground.

Bill, tell me about what needs worrying about in the debate? The moderators? Trump's gish galloping? Anti-Israel protestors?

I agree. The person who should be worried is Trump.

Mr. Kinzinger did a good job of clearly laying out the difference between true conservatism, and batshit crazy!

Laughable as they are, one of the Truth Social entries nevertheless makes me really nervous. There's a good chance that Trump's searing observation that "Walz was an ASSISTANT Coach, not a COACH" could turn this election around and send him straight to the White House.

Expand full comment

Anyone who has been on a team knows this is easily the stupidest criticism T could level. Asst. Coach, Coach, are both coaches.

I totally understand what you’re saying but if that’s what people thinks makes a difference…then we are screwed as a country.

Well, we're here. So, we are screwed (but in a position to help ourselves).

Now that's the cringiest donut ordering video of all time. I don't know what he was going for but it surely wasn't that. Everyone Vance talks to just wants to get away from him. Everything Trump touches dies. What a perfect couple.

At first, I thought it was just me, but I notice now that everyone seems to be picking up on the boredom and tediousness of some of Trump's audience when he starts his rants. There are the loyal few that cheer and applaud, but a lot of the audience behind him seem to cringe or not even care during his "Greatest Hits".

Wow! What a convention! Amazing contrast to the RNC.

I love the Project 2025 denials from Trump when he is on video being so proud of it when it was announced two or three years ago. As usual, when Don-OLD denies he knows something, he knows everything.

Someone should also point out to Don-OLD that his campaign has already said they will use the Project 2025 hiring rolls to staff his next administration and that those people have been vetted against Project 2025 principles. So, for him to say he knows nothing about Project 2025 is very disingenuous when you are only going to hire people that are indoctrinated in Project 2025. So, again, he know exactly what Project 2025 is about. Never mind the fact that his Agenda 47 is the 'Cliff Notes' for Project 2025.

The result is that Democrats need to keep hanging details of Project 2025 around his neck. Particularly the ones like essentially getting rid of overtime and the cutting of social security and Medicare. If any two issues are near and dear to the MAGA crowd, those are going to be very high on their lists.

I also like the idea of calling Don-OLD a scab. The Democrats should be playing video of him at that non-Union auto plant in Michigan pretending that he's on the picket line.

Finally, that video of JD at the donut shop was just painful. What is the point of quizzing people about how long they have worked at such a place? I kept trying to come up with a reason why any response would lead anywhere. If someone had replied 20 years, was he going to give them a gold star for longevity? In the end, all I could come up with is he just has little idea how to interact with regular people.

Also he is trying so hard to be "normal" and "relaxed" by behaving in a nonchalant manner.

"Yeah a couple of glazed... some sprinkles... whatever makes sense...".

Translation: "I'm just a normal chilled out dude who likes donuts, but not enough to actually care about picking them. Unlike those marxist communist demoncrats who would probably have a list of specific donuts."

I don't get donuts as much as I used to but it's not hard.
