I came up with an idea for why Trump doesn’t read briefings and prefers Fox/Real America TV News ad nauseum for his security info.

Vanity.

Like most 77 year olds, he has bad presbyopia (far-sightedness). He needs bifocals. Kinda normal, right? Not for Trump.

His vanity won’t let him wear glasses because, god forbid, that would be a sign of weakness. Because only weak people need specs. And he’s not weak. He’s Trump Stong. Like a Trump Truck, flying the flag and Burnin’ Coal.

It’s also why he signs stuff with a black Sharpie in giant letters. Otherwise he can’t see what he’s doing.

What a weakling. And as Tim says, the luckiest man on the planet.

Hi Charlie! I was doing a long-quote crostic puzzle today, and they used one of your quotes as the solution!

American education is breaking apart... Among educationists... self-esteem is an article of faith with almost limitless application. California's Task Force to Promote Self-Esteem, for instance, declared that a good self-concept "inoculates us against the lures of crime, violence, substance abuse, teen pregnancy, child abuse, chronic welfare dependency and educational failures." It left out acne and athlete's foot.

I am confused. Please help. Mr Saletan who a whole article documenting how those claiming the mantle of conservative (er, Republican) and running to get Republican folks to vote for them, are indeed using "Christian parenting rights" to deprive others of their rights, and in some cases, deprive others of their actual lives. He gave examples of those same folks "underdoing" COVID to such an extent that one could argue progressives needed to be extreme just to pull policy back to center. And how with many of the boarder policies being proposed, the people that the policies are are targeting are explicitly based on having the "wrong" skin tone, such that one can argue that yes every boarder policy proposed is racist...becuase it focuses on RACE!!

Don't see alot of protests at the Canadian boarder though it is hard to believe everyone coming in from Canada is legal. No European is here on an expired visa or claiming asylum??

Yet he still writes that "progressives jerk their knees"? Are progressives not reacting to the ACTUAL actions being done across the country by Republicans? And how is it that progressives must "listen and understand" that the MAGA right is "insane" in their approach, but are still "highlighting an important issues impacting America", like how many people are risking their lives to get here, and how many women arent getting married, and causing men to be lonely.

Yet progressives are both insane in their approach and coming from a place of overreacting, highlighting "trival" issues. Like a woman trying not to die from pregnancy or a gay person trying to make it home without being beaten to death or being concerned that we have SCOTUS issuing rulings that fundamentally change lives based not on the facts, or what is happening today, but what was true circa 1877?

Le sigh.

Re Israeli-Palestinian relations: I stopped reading about them some time in the 60s when each was saying some god was on their side. How's that divine intervention workin' for ya?

“if I happen to be president and I see somebody who’s doing well and beating me very badly”

Note that this implies that he’ll run for president again if he’s re-elected. Not that there is any real doubt that he’ll refuse to leave office, but it confirms the suspicion that that is his mindset.

This is all an outgrowth of irresponsible men who refuse to take ownership for their actions and words.

“Just joking” “chill out” “I was just kidding” are things little boys say when they’re trying not to get in trouble. If you’re gonna go fashy, just own being a fucking Nazi. Of course Mr. Vance knows exactly what he’s doing.

I read the title and my first thought was "JD Vance should walk into a tree" ... Really Ohio, what the heck has happened to you? How can you send Sherrod Brown to the senate and then elect JD Vance?

Ohio has Jim Jordan, so the bar is pretty darn low.

I know it is late in the day, but this question is bugging me big time. Has anyone heard how many American citizens Trump plans on executing when he takes ultimate control? I know General Mark Milley is on the [tippy top of the] list, but I wonder how many others will be smeared and singled out for death. Just a list of those to be shot in year one of his dictatorship will be sufficient. I can then multiply by four to ascertain totals over the four years of Trump II. Calculations for Trump III will have to wait. For now.

Thank you.

Prediction: He'll be hired.

RE: Fentanyl-Neutral Ohio Senator's Idea of Wit.

Vance stated: "“...he’s the most quick witted leader in a generation.”

Let's go to an interview with Cletus Beauregard Lee Jackson:

"My hero messenger, a boy from Bumfuque, Ohio, cain't be held acountybull when speechifin' 'bout the greatest leader since former prez-e-dents, Andy Jackson, him who got rid of dem red devils in the future Confederate states, who claimed their ancestors had been on the land for 1,000-odd years, who can could that far back unless it's in the Holy Bible 'bout Jesus.

Or at least, that slave ownin' Confederacy supportin' John Tyler, what a guy. Put his money where his mouth was and put his pork roll into the Mrs to have 15 kids, one o0f whose is still alive today!! A grandson is alive today.

Can you beat dat --- an offspring of that slave-holding son-of-a-gun is still kickin'.

Me an Lurleen, my legal sexual partner [nod/nod, wink/wink] has a few of dem tax-write-off rug rats around since our kids, after weeks "working" at the trailer on the other side of the farm, decide to hit the road following a cover band of a cover band of Montgomery Gentry.

J.D. was a bit jumpy when "cornered' by the evil media, who suggested that he may have meant that Orange God-King was the "the most dim-witted leader in a generation.”

By the way, did you notice J.D.'s initials are the same as his degree from that northern anti-slavery college.

Anyways, he 'splained that our hero is perhaps the funniest leader alive.

I agree ---- Lurleen likes his cripple-people jokes, I likes his "kelered" peoples jokes...J.D. seems to like his dictator jokes.

So that's what it comes down to...we white, non-college graduates like us a heapin' helping of Trump humor, while the anti-Trump peoples like the "e-lights" Jew-humor.

It's astounding how stupid people become when they take their slobbering knee to The Great Orange One. A respected author who educated us and advocated for some of the most impoverished people suddenly becomes a slathering bulldog for the man who cares nothing about the holler where said author hails from. Nor anybody from any impoverished background. What in the world are they teaching at those Ivy League schools these days?? Shysterism 101 – 401? JD Vance, please, please, go join Tucker on his island in Maine and barricade yourselves there. Take The Great Orange One with you.

I read the book and was appalled at what I saw as his lack of self awareness and empathy. I didn't think.it merited the hype. He has always seemed the entitled grifter type to me but maybe im.being unfair.

Expand full comment

No, you're not wrong. He is tone deaf and self aggrandizing. I'm referring in my comment to the perception that the general population has of the book. I didn't bother watching the movie after having read it. He obviously has no interest in bettering any conditions of the people back in the holler that he made millions off of.

Exactly! Thanks. What an ungrateful little boy he has always been! (I do wish the "elites" of the various professions would get out of their bubbles more and thus be more discerning about such things; I couldn't figure out why they thought him wonderful. It is his peers thrill with him that rubs off on the general population I think -- not unlike has happened to the GOP.)

With Vance it is all about his long-road strategy.

He could easily win his Senate run two or three more times considering the mental acuity of the Buckeye state.

Are you implying that in his third or fourth term he may actually become a proponent for all of the less fortunate and impoverished?! What's he waiting for, Trump to eat a few too many big macs?! :)

TLO,

Did not mean to imply that the dique would ever come back to any sense of being the "caring dude" offering hillybilly-wokeness in his book.

He may be waiting for the Insurrectionist-In-Chief's pulmonary system to blow up.

But...he has no charisma...just another Madger the Badger, Bobo Bobert, Beavis/Butthead Gaetz with a law degree.

Probably not as Dictator-oriented as the Caudillo de DeSantistan, but he does like power without the opulence required by Senora Caudillo.

Recently seen on TV. Interviewer asked a typical looking middle aged magat woman what she would do if Trump lost the election, she answered after a little thought which

one would think she never does, "I'll kill myself". Then I thought, gee, if trump could get all the magats to drink the cool aid when he loses ( if he actually does run) then we would be rid of them forever, or whatever.

What on earth does she think TFF*G will do for her that's so great that she's willing to die for him? Increase taxes on her while decreasing them on the rich? End Social Security so she'll have to work until she drops dead? Put her kids in a camp when she can't afford any medical care for them because ACA is gone? On the other hand: What on earth does she think Ds will do her that's so bad? Fix SS and Medicare? Increase taxes on the rich? Fix the roads in her red state? Help her when a tornado wipes out her home? . . . . . . What the heck is wrong with these people?

And apparently their "team" "winning" is a matter of life or death, even if their lives are otherwise the same. /s

Perversely, I think the right wing propaganda machine thrives when the other "team" is winning. It's a lot easier to manufacture hate and outrage that way. It's not as easy playing defense for their own "team."
