I really enjoyed this podcast and but as far as finding "common ground", how do you find that with people who see retribution, internment and possible execution of their political enemies as being a reasonable option?

Beautiful episode - this ranks up there as my favorites. Sad the first thing I thought of was that Grace is a Trump supporter. How much joy does the Orange menace take from all of us?

Poor Jen, I have CFS which sounds so much like long COVID. Still fighting the ideas that this is "fake" illness. Damn, it's infuriating, exhausting, and yeah I spend a lot of time resting. Days at a time, used to be weeks and months. Sympathies and big hope for Jen getting better soon.

What a lovely conversation with Jennifer Senior. I live in the same town as the Fernald State "School," a now-closed institution. There are many local stories of doctors telling parents to place their disabled child there, think of their other children, the family needs to have a life, etc. We have group homes now, typically 5 intellectually/developmentally disabled adults plus caregivers in a single family house. Not without problems but moving in the right direction (I live in a progressive state). De-institutionalization would not have happened absent a lawsuit and continued court monitoring. I am on the board of one of the social services organizations that owns and runs housing for adults with disabilities including severe and profound autism, and her Atlantic article is a must-read for board members.

I follow this podcast regularly and this was one of my favorites. However I cringed at the comment "it's what the boys say after a couple of beers" referring to the legitimacy of long covid. There are so many ways to interpret that, all bad. Perhaps a better way to ask about the elephant in the room is "can you comment on those who believe long covid is not real/psychosomatic?"

It's kind of cool that all of us Bulwark listeners will be able to someday say that we 'knew him when' about Tim Miller. Such great interviewing skills and ability to elicit meaningful responses about even painful subjects without being offensive.

Who gives a flip what 'the boys' say after a couple beers?

Do you have to hedge about Bannon inciting violence? Does plainly stating the truth about him make you vulnerable to being sued?

Long Covid, is it psychosomatic? Yeah that made me sob. I was not nearly as bad as Ms Senior. Did not affect me enough to rate a doctor visit because what were they going to do? But the overwhelming need to sleep was not in my mind. Let me tell you it was a good thing I did not have a job. I am actually getting over it. Finally starting to smell and taste again, not all the time. It’s taken over two years.

I had to hit pause when I heard "seriously, not literally." What happened to Ms. Seriously, Not Literally? Was anybody able to get her response to January 6th? Her explanation? Maybe JVL can keep track of which Sheetz she's working for the inside scoop.

This was a fantastic discussion—one of the best podcasts I have ever heard. Important topics like long COVID and raising children with developmental issues that we seldom discuss but should think about. The children present so many issues for the family. It is heartbreaking. But I am reminded of another issue that is seldom discussed—care of the elderly. That too requires people of the younger generation to give up their lives to care for folks who are often living well into their nineties because the alternative may be bankruptcy. Death, dying, illness, none are pleasant topics, but they are with us and we need to come together as a society to support those with these additional burdens they never expected to have.

I do enjoy it when other people whose work I admire are revealed to be fellow Bulwark fans. Jennifer Senior is a treasure.

I have a daughter with Down syndrome and I find it heartbreaking that people like her were shunned and forgotten even from birth. I can't imagine my life without her. I am very proud of her despite her limits and, if she could talk, I'm sure she'd say the same about me. You'd think the author of The Crucible would be able to understand that. Alas...
