Liz has been endorsing Democrats for a couple of years now. As you say, this wasn’t surprising.

I’ve seen a number of my fellow Democrats spurn her support because they dislike all that she has stood for as a politician. Fair point. It’s useless to try to convince them that like Adam Kinzinger she threw away her career and her power and influence because she is a patriot.

But she is. Were Trump to be reelected, she’d be in actual danger. She’s the mother of five; I doubt if a military tribunal and prison (or worse) is how she wants to spend her future Thanksgivings.

There are a lot of Republicans out there who are Pat Toomeys. They don’t want Trump but “principle” means they can’t vote for Harris. They’re Philip Nolans (at least they think so; I think it’s a lot of hooey. We don’t have ringworm) and like Nolan, must not read the news.

Cheney gave them permission to do the unthinkable, this time.

I really admire Cheney. She comes from a very Conservative right wing background, culture, family and yet when push came to shove she stood up for what was right, not easy. It would have been so easy for her to kiss Trump's ass. She might have gotten to be considered for a VP slot. She would have retained her seat in congress. Instead she showed real courage and angered her family and friends, lost her career because she refused to bow to Trump the con man and useful idiot.

And her dad stuck by her from the beginning. Call me shocked.

I'm a Democrat, and I don't care what she has ever said about Democrats and policy. I am so grateful for the stand she has taken and for her service on the Jan 6th committee. I criticize my fellow Democrats frequently on policy matters, and even more frequently criticize the growing intolerance and illiberalism of the progressive wing of the party.

I totally agree with you. Liz is a true patriot.

Good point. If trump were to win, she and her family would be some of the first "on the wall". I'm glad she didn't speak at the DNC. I think this allowed her voice to be louder and not drowned out by the rest of the DNC coverage.

She and I disagree on many things but she has done one thing that many in her party refuse to do, show that they have morals, standards, principles and speak to truth. Unfortunately doing these simple things has put her and her family in danger. Thank you, Liz.

"Were Trump to be reelected, she’d be in actual danger."

Yes, but she is in actual danger now also. See Mitt Romney's $5000/day security bill.

Cheney has good neighbors and Wyoming folks seldom miss their targets. She’ll be okay.

I pray that you’re right. Some of her neighbors may not be too fond of her, though.

I agree. I am a Democrat and disagree with almost every policy she supports. I have also found some of her remarks disgusting, particularly her statement that Democrats support abortion up to and after birth - wow Liz, really??? But, I am also awed by her moral courage and forever grateful to her, despite believing that she and her policy stances and rhetoric prior to J6 have played a not insignificant role in leading our country to this crossroads. I am glad she is on our side, meaning the side of America, Americans, and American democracy. She is a hero and you are correct that she has put herself and her family at significant risk even if TFG does not prevail. God help us all if he does.

Thank you! You summed up my feelings and hope…. There will be NO way “We the People”, should he win… And WE know he is the “ceremonial” head…. He is backed and promoted by the “brain trust”, from around the world… megabucks!, especially terrifying!

Her calling out the "write in a name" BS was better than just saying she's voting for Harris.

These clowns like Hogan who think it's honorable to write in dead people are just not serious people. Let's hope he loses.

That's a key point. No bullshit, go and vote for Harris. You don't vote *for* Harris, you end up with Trump. We have to reject him if we're going to turn to a better normal.

I did like that part. Love or hate Cheney, she is clear on action and consequences. No quibbling.

I don’t spurn the support. And I hope she and her family stay safe because there is a great deal of crazy out there. Cheney is a savvy politician and knows that while her time may not be right now it will come around again. Harris did mention she would be open to a republican in her cabinet after all.

I was talking with a co-worker and thought that it might perk the GOP up if Cheney was put forward as AG in Harris's administration.

That would be a fine position for her. The AG is supposed to be non-partisan and independent.

We’ve seen her embrace of justice.

She is made of sterner stuff than Garland, for sure.

Meh, she didn't do much about her colleagues who materially supported January 6. I appreciate her clarity on Trump, of course, but she seems to me to have a Garlandian urge to protect the GOP even still.

Hmmmm. Time will tell. And it is nice to be able discuss various politicians'/people's capabilities (or lack thereof) without having to fear for one's life or country.

Garland sat on his hands for nearly 4 years before bringing any kind of case against Trumpo. He needs to go. NOW.

Kim M Murphy's avatar

That’s not correct. He had the FBI start investigations as soon as he was sworn in. The investigations were blocked and interfered with by holdovers from the Trump administration but he finally prevailed and it was two years, not four, before Trump became the target and then the defendant. In the interim a thousand rioters were convicted by the DOJ.

Bad FBI agents are under Chris Wray, not Garland. Wray should have gone a long time ago.
