This comment relates to the Just Between Us podcast this week and specifically to JVL and Mona. I am a lifelong liberal Democrat. I would vote for Biden over Trump even if he was totally senile. However, I hope he chooses to withdraw his nomination because I do not believe he can present a forceful attack on the dangers of Trump and Project 2025. This is a very difficult decision for Biden , of course, but is for all of us who revere him.
JVL and Mona and all the other Bulwarkers - I am really sorry you have faced so much criticism from some of my fellow Democrats. You are only speaking the truth and living in the sad reality that Biden, at least as a candidate, is diminished. I have gone back and forth on what I think Joe and the Democrats should do. I have finally come to the belief that a younger more vigorous candidate is needed. Shame on those who have criticized all of us wrestling with this sad state of affairs.
And yet the divorced dudes probably don't know that Trump's 2017 tax cuts eliminated their ability to deduct alimony from the yearly income taxes. Why let facts get in the way of taking a bath in your resentments and anger?
Speaking of divorce, why has media divorced itself from following up on the Helsinki story about Trump using a Russian translator back in the day. Back when the question of Russian influence on the 2016 election was more active. At the time it appeared Putin had “something” on DT. Photos? Tapes?

What I can’t unsee are all the mailings my aggrieved, MAGA- loving husband receives from Trump and his minions. There’s a “Divorced Guy Energy” running through intact marriages too. It’s when the educated white suburban women say oh hail no! After his first vote for Trump in 2016 I held space for him to learn but after his second vote for Trump in 2020 and his plaintive cry, “what other choice do I have”I realized his moral compass was broken and that I was the one who needed to make a different choice. We’re still married but in name only. And it’s hard.
Find a path out. You deserve to be able to move on. What choice does he have than to vote for a xenophobic, racist, misogynistic pig? You can do better.
More and more this election is reminding me of the words of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a dissident German theologian locked up and eventually murdered by the Nazis. Bonhoeffer wrote that stupidity is more dangerous than evil. Here's the link to his letter written from prison on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Hitler's election. I hope JVL will read it, it's all too apt to what's happening now.

Men benefit greatly from marriage or long term monogamy, more than women do. It serves an important purpose of connection that, if not filled, could drive some men to seek belonging in negative ways.
