He'll do great as, ahem, Solicitor General now that he dropped the AG bid.

Like any good citizen and decent human being, I'm happy that Gaetz has asked for his Attorney General nomination to be called off. But far too many people online are taking victory laps far too early, I'm afraid. Let's wait to see what new atrocity The Convicted Felon-elect has up his sleeve and ready to drop into his short, vulgar fingers. It's bound to be a doozy.

IMO, I never really thought this AG thing was for real. He needed some way to quash that ethics report. The ersatz AG idea was a good premise for leaving right in time, two days ahead of the release of the report. It's very cynical, but I no longer think anything, however preposterous, is beyond what's possible, in the DJT era.

And Gaetz has withdrawn. Thankfully. But I wonder which freak or geek will be nominated next?

Any word on whether or not he's going back to the next session of congress to fill the seat he was elected to?

If he does, would that increase the likelihood of the ethics report being released?

Great question. If we assume the ethics report is damning, what are the consequences? If Republicans are in control, can he stay?

welp. now what? seems like there's still some up and down. of course this is only because he said mean things about senators not that he's a crook.

Oh, please, Senators - don't reveal the content's of that ethics report! Don't refuse to let Gaetz become AG! Donald Trump will be SO mad!

The nominees trump has put forward have nothing to do with real politics. They have a lot to do with 8 year old Donald trump. The other boys were nasty to him - so now he has got the football, he is not just going to take it home with him - he is going to deflate it and then cut it to ribbons in front of the whole team. All the while saying "I'll show YOU!"

And there's nobody grown up enough in the team to stop him.

Doesn't the fact that on a party line vote the report isn't getting released tell us pretty much what we need to know about its contents? Five Republicans voting against and five Democrats voting for release suggests the contents of the report would be pretty damning for Gaetz.

Gaetz wants a fair shake. And if the pedophile is lying, there is nothing anyone can do about it. Reagan had to pull a nominee for the Supreme Court because he once smoked pot. Now pedophilia is the morals of the Republican Party.

Re: "Democrats and a fair number of Republicans have expressed concerns about Gaetz’s judgment, his morals, and whether he would exact revenge on the very agency that spent more than three years investigating him over allegations of sex trafficking a minor."

How about applying the same standard that Bill Kristol did back in 2005 when President Bush nominated Harriet Miers? "Harriet Miers has an impressive record as a corporate attorney and Bush administration official. She has no constitutionalist credentials that I know of."

Neither does Matt Gaetz. And he hasn't put together an impressive record as a corporate attorney -- or any kind of attorney -- nor has he worked as an administration official.

Might that be the way to go? Or at least A way to go?

I sometimes think that the country would be much, much much better off if we had gotten Harriet Myers instead of the alternative. But it seems that the corporate Republicans of the day The Heritage, Weekly Standard crowd had a bone to pick with Myers.

The Federalist crap you linked to shows how depraved and totally lacking in integrity and intellectual honesty the "Conservative figures and influencers" who "have begun rallying to Gaetz’s side" are.

It's a disgusting smear job of the DOJ, filled with lies and pure bullshit. If you want to risk vomiting, read the whole thing.

What's worse is that a WOMAN, Mollie Hemingway, penned this shrill screed. A typical craven Trump Ass Kisser who echos ridiculous conspiracy theories in the service of Dear Leader.

Perfect illustration of self-hating women who revel and repulsively defend men who are degenerate sexual predators who prey on high school girls.

But why Gaetz? If his agenda is as he says it is, there are many, many more candidates more qualified to carry out that agenda than Gaetz. If this was all the DOJ is going to be primarily tasked with, why not pick a cleaner more experienced conservative for the job? I don't buy it for a moment. I believe Trump wants Gaetz because he, like Trump, doesn't give a shit about Constitutional restraints and promised totally fealty to Trump over the Constitution.

It seems that if Mike Lee wants to "schedule a hearing so that we can address this", he should be asking for the House to release the report so the senate can address it.

Why write this? I mean, really. How many times can Lucy pull away the football before we stop trying to put a logical spin on everything. Trump, as he has before, will use the DOJ to go after people whether Gaetz is confirmed or not. If it's not Gaetz it will be somebody else. Stop trying to make it look as if there is some kind of decision process going on.
