IMO, I never really thought this AG thing was for real. He needed some way to quash that ethics report. The ersatz AG idea was a good premise for leaving right in time, two days ahead of the release of the report. The nominees trump has put forward have nothing to do with real politics. They have a lot to do with 8 year old Donald trump. The other boys were nasty to him - so now he has got the football, he is not just going to take it home with him - he is going to deflate it and then cut it to ribbons in front of the whole team. Doesn't the fact that on a party line vote the report isn't getting released tell us pretty much what we need to know about its contents? Five Republicans voting against and five Democrats voting for release suggests the contents of the report would be pretty damning for Gaetz.

But why Gaetz? If his agenda is as he says it is, there are many, many more candidates more qualified to carry out that agenda than Gaetz. If this was all the DOJ is going to be primarily tasked with, why not pick a cleaner more experienced conservative for the job? I don't buy it for a moment. I believe Trump wants Gaetz because he, like Trump, doesn't give a shit about Constitutional restraints and promised totally fealty to Trump over the Constitution.
It seems that if Mike Lee wants to "schedule a hearing so that we can address this", he should be asking for the House to release the report so the senate can address it.
