Maybe it's all the PBS we watched as kids? Maybe it's Alan Alda and Marlo Thomas' fault for, "Free to Be You and Me, " not "Conform to the Group or You Ain't a Real American?" I find sanity in the Bulwark in our present "Heart of Darkness." I can't decide if Bannon or Musk is Kurtz. For those of us who grew up before books were banned (Gen-X), I'm haunted by the prescience of books I read decades ago.
