I normally don't comment but the article calling Donald Trump the rights Al Sharpton was beyond the pale. "Donsld Trump may not accomplish much"??? He has accomplished more than Al Shaprton! Al Sharpton never inspired anyone to overthrow the government. He was never president, or even an alderman! He never passed. sponsored or signed laws depriving people of their dignity in order to "own the cons"! "Owing the conservatives" isn't even a thing. Ideas and Words are powerful; ideas and words with the actual power to make them laws are more powerful still. As long as people equate words, without looking at the level of power associated with the speaker we won't be able to move past anything.
If Donald Trump was truly Al Sharpton he would just have a talk show on CNN, instead he has the power to make CNN beg for his presence. MSNBC dose not do that for Al Sharpton
Okay, now this is downright scary: "“Rob,” My Red Button is bigger, better, stronger, and is working (TRUTH!), yours does not! (per my conversation with Kim Jung Un, of North Korea, soon to become my friend!)." From Donald to Ron. https://www.politicususa.com/2023/05/24/trumps-reacts-to-desantiss-failure-to-launch-by-bragging-about-his-bigger-red-button.html. So non-socialist, non-communist Donald will become the friend of possibly the worst dictator in the world. Ds! Pay attention! Don's pro-communist! God help us!
NYT says it's official - Ronnie's running. And who cares?
I like this one from Politicususa: "A new Monmouth University Poll found that Americans agree with President Biden's position by a more than 2 to 1 margin on the debt limit." Even Rs don't support Kevin. https://www.politicususa.com/2023/05/24/poll-biden-debt-limit.html. Maybe Kevin should take some of those Testosterone pills that men are hawking on TV and tell Marjorie to get lost.
Does Charlie tell it like it is or what? "In 2023, a major candidate for president of the United States is paying court to an erratic, decompensating, narcissistic, endlessly needy, petulant man-child, who has spent the past few months posting poop emojis, taking counsel from someone called catturd, and destroying the social media platform he bought on a whim." What world does this GOP live in? Trump in court and on his own idiotic truth-be-damned social and Ron DeSatanist making his announcement with the other social Satanist, while the clock is ticking on USA debt default...what a wonderful world!
Not sure what cars you’re looking at, but Tesla is going to lose their market lead very quickly. There are plenty of options out there, many of which actually listened to car owners and designed them in accordance (ahem - physical buttons). Not to mention “full self driving” will be a legal issue here soon. Have I gotten into construction issues yet?
I wouldn't buy that car if you paid me. Self-driving? Not on my planet - I don't even use cruise control! True car fans (my father was one) enjoy the driving and the tinkering.
When I commuted, I used to write an annual "Biggest Douche Drivers" blog post every year, based on watching the asshattery on the roads.
For the longest time, BMW drivers took the award. Then in the mid aught's it moved to Audi drivers.
2014 on here in Silicon Valley, the German marques have been eclipsed by Tesla's.
I have been almost run down in the early morning twice while walking my dog by ... you guessed it ... Tesla's. Either the Autopilot/FSD beta, or the regular driver being completely negligent, I don't care to find out. I am extra cautious, and I bought one of those visibility vests work by roadworkers to hopefully improve their ability to "see" me
Charlie, is it plausible that Trump and the MAGA GOP elected officials will not vote to divert a debt ceiling collapse because the chaos that would occur would be so great that the DOJ and the FBI would not be in position to move forward with their investigations into all of their criminal behavior as it relates to the insurrection? Their so called concern about spending is a coverup for this more horrid intention
On why trump's legal losses increase his support: it is the way he uses the victim card as battering ram. Pretty much every MAGAT and potential MAGAT harbors a deep sense that whatever is wrong with his/her life is because someone is DOING something, making them a victim. And trump's calls speak deeply to that belief, validating it.
Everyone feels victimized sometimes--that's what life is. Ask any woman who has been talked over in a meeting that is mostly men. But many of us shake it off, seeing it as just one of life's problems, not to be dwelt upon, or (in the case of women and those interrupting men, something to be fought as a matter of social change.) The ones who brood, who blame EVERYTHING adverse in life on someone else, are very vulnerable to this card.
Given that it is happening so much in the GOP, all I can say is so much for it being the party of individual responsibility. That concept has become a matter of YOU should accept personal responsibility, but I don't have to.
Trumpism isn't going to continue endlessly into the future because 1) it's not a coherent philosophy; 2) it doesn't win elections. Many of these presidential candidates are making guesses about what the future of the GOP will be. and trying to get out in front of it. Quite likely they will be wrong, but one of them may turn out to be right. Let's not forget Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton were longshots who pundits would have said they had no path to the Presidency. Yet, they became President.
I used to think America was great because we elect a Presidents that is a good person, and that good person surrounds himself with intelligent people that provide council, and together, a Great American Leader is formed, and we are in good hands. It's ok if I was wrong in my naivete, but not this wrong.
We used to try to do that, and sometimes even succeed. But back then both parties thought Americans should all be encouraged to vote. And the elected ones argued about policy.
Charlie, taking your comment as a quesion: What do you call narcissistic, endlessly needy, petulant man-child?
A: Tesla/Twitter KAREN...
How exactly will they even get Trump to pay up, in the first place?

Jesse Kelly is right, if the Republican Party has anything to say about it! "When someone tells you what they are, believe them!" -- dammit!
Excellent pod with David Frum today, Charlie.
It was interesting to hear JVL, Sarah and Tim discussing DeSantis’ campaign launch, immediately after listening to you and David, on the same subject.
I found David’s dominance hypothesis far more compelling than their takes, and I’m a huge Next Level fan.
Two interesting just received email feeds:

Well, at least we know the opposite of “woke” -- it’s “musk”, you know the scent a male uses to mark his territory. Elon done musked Ron.
Love today's podcast opening tune. Classic. (It's "is this the real life, is this just fantasy" from Queen)

You forgot to add McCarthy kissing whatever part of Marjorie's anatomy you can stomach. She's the Speaker, and she knows it.
When MTG rapped the Speaker’s gavel and called for decorum, most of the House laughed for almost ten minutes.
Apparently, acting like a dim witted middle school mean girl has its price.
They've already bought his cars. They will probably still buy them unless a better all electric car comes along.

I'm not sure about his cars. Caught a headline that said the batteries are failing and causing fires.
I'd have gone to Disney World.
🥸👍
