I wish everyone would stop being so hard on Judge Cannon. For one, it reinforces the image of federal judges as "Trump" judges or "Obama" judges, etc, which is not helpful for cultivating a respect for the rule of law. For another, Judge Cannon is a brand-new federal district court judge, whereas the Special Master is a *very* experienced federal judge. So why not give her the benefit of the doubt and assume her ruling was in good faith?
Regarding SL’s tweet about McConnell’s culpability in the continuing danger from Trump, let me say this: truer words were never spoken. And I think that his response to the second impeachment puts lie to the conventional wisdom that he just had to accommodate Trump so he would get his judges. That had some credibility while Trump was President but had passed its expiration date once the election was over. He wasn’t going to get any of “his” judges while Biden was President. And, anyway, he already had gotten more than any reasonable person had a right to expect. And McConnell has to know that, even if he disagrees with the policies of the Democrats, they aren’t the America-hating pedophiles that the Trumplicants paint them out to be. He had to know that a second Trump term would almost certainly be worse than anything the Dems could cook up. But he also had to know that the GOP would take a serious hit if Trump were convicted. So he had a choice – sacrifice his power for the greater good (getting rid of Trump) or continue to look the other way and just hope that something happens to Trump. I’m not even sure that McConnell really thought that he had a choice. He’s been playing the game of power politics so long he couldn’t have done it any other way.
Mitch's failure to have Trump convicted during his second impeachment trial was a deliberate calculation on his part not to tarnish the Repulican brand prior to the still-pending Senate election in Georgia. It backfired on him as Trump used his unconvicted status to so denigrate the electoral system's validity that many who would have otherwise voted Republican did not cast ballots, thus causing Mitch to lose his Majority Leadership to Shumer.
I would really appreciate it if even truth relevant reporters and the Bulwark talk about immigration, that they stop with the assumption that this is due to a "broken" immigration system.
All of these migrants who were sent to MV were legally in in the country pursuant to an asylum claim.

In the very beginning of this nightmare we all wondered what Putin had on trump, I continue to wonder that and what does trump have on Rubio, McConnell, Graham and the rest. Sure some of them are just afraid of him, but the rest? Also, all of the unreported and unrecorded contact between the 2 of them. Are the interpreters who were present still alive?
I wouldn't doubt that Putin has something on Trump, but I think many Republicans have just been trying to stay on the right side of his voters. Republicans who stand up to Trump have tended to get threats of violence, and then get voted out, and MAGA world gloats about taking them down. Would any dirt that Trump might have on any Republican be more intolerable to the base than getting cross-wise with Trump?

If only Gov Abbott's abdication of his responsibility to keep the lights on in TX could push Beto over the finish line in November. I'm not a huge Beto fan, but defeating Abbott would bring a host of benefits:
1) Gregory W. Abbott would no longer be governor of Texas. This is no small thing. He's proven himself to be a heartless and amoral person.
2) The news of a Gov-elect Beto O'Rourke would come as a welcome shock to our political system.
3) Did I mention that Abbott would be booted out of the Governor's mansion?

Bulwark is one of my first reads in the morning. I always feel better informed (dare i say smarter?) after reading what has been written. While our politics could not be further apart, i feel connected in more ways than i can count. It's exactly what this country needs; coming together.

Proud to say I went to high school with Merrick Garland. He was a few years a head of me. He gave the very best speech I ever heard in an assembly, and I'm counting the principal and teachers in that survey. Garland got a standing ovation from a very blase group of suburban teens.
