For the record I’m more of a lower l libertarian and even more of a neoconservative. I sometimes describe myself as a neoconertarian. (I think the government should mostly leave people alone and also that we should export that ideal around the world.)
Bong Joon Ho trying to force Mickey 17 into a limp Trump allegory instead of embracing the bizarre existential horror of the book? Tragic. The beauty of Snowpiercer and The Host was their commitment to over-the-top absurdity wrapped in engaging genre storytelling. But Mickey 17 sounds like a disjointed, humorless lecture that forgot to entertain. When a movie about immortal space-clone laborers feels boring, something has gone horribly wrong. Bong traded sharp satire for lazy symbolism, and it sounds like the audience is left paying the price in sheer disappointment.
One note though for Mickey 17: Pattinson was clearly having fun playing Mickey 17/18 against each other. The scene in the room where they discuss "the dinner" gives us Pattinson at his both most pathetic and devious
A cacophony of pointless dialogue to distract the audience from the zero content of this snoozefest. Perhaps the worst movie of the 21st century. I must have fallen asleep 20 times omfg
Thanks for the review. I found the trailer interesting and was hoping to hear something about it. I did not know there was a book and now glad to grab it as my next read instead of seeing the movie
I loved the book, was looking forward to the movie but since I don't watch the ElDon show in real or reality time, I'll skip the movie and continue the fight. I love your reviews/discussions, your good friends, and even your spoilers. I was a novice when I started listening to your podcast. Now I am at least a 3rd grader. Thank you and continue the good work.
What? A Mickey 17 review, but no review of Oscar Winner "No Other Land"?
Consider me shocked.
There's biased coverage, and then there's Bulwark coverage: condemnation of all things Palestinian, or silence on all Israeli atrocities.
You are leaving your listeners uninformed.
BTW, I listen to every episode. 🥰
I don’t usually comment, but I love Across the Movie Aisle and Sonny Bunch. Even if you’re more capital L libertarian than me! :)

Sounds like a semi-ripoff of the idea behind Duncan Jones' 2009 excellent film "Moon."
Grrrrr ... I really enjoyed the book (and its sequel) and was (am still?) looking forward to the movie. Guess I'll see how it goes for me.

Clearly you have not seen Cats

Excellent reviews, thanks!
Snowpiercer is just the best and I get so happy when someone appreciates it properly
