This whole Signal thing is stupidity of the first order. I wish news would leave Goldberg out of it, because he is not the story, he is simply how we found out.

"Six minutes later, the vice president, apparently confused by Waltz’s message, wrote, “What?”

This is priceless and perfectly sums up the incredible incompetence of this whole administration.

He said "What?". We say "overrated" only because "underprepared for the job" and "out of his element" are too obvious already.

I’m chuckling over the (small) revelation that, in true DC style, Waltz had Goldberg’s contact info. He’s a JG source, probably including leaking to JG when the opportunity presents itself.

Waltz says he has never met Goldberg, so why does he have his email, and invite him to the chat?

Expand full comment

He doesn’t have to have “met” him. Apparently Mike thinks we rubes have never heard of these things called “phones.”

He may have never "met" Goldberg but might still have communicated with him on Signal. Sleight of tongue.

So Walz has been a leaker! Why else would he have Goldberg’s email?

There was a search for the “leaker”, supposedly lie detector tests were threatened.

To them, Goldberg IS the main event; The Scapegoat.

Then democrats should not let this happen, keep the heat on Hegseth especially. Both Ratcliff and Gabbard pretty much threw him under the bus in the hearing yesterday. It was his party, he was the classification authority according to them. This is pretty lame especially on Gabbard's part, she is the DNI for heaven's sake, but if she really does not "recall" as she often said yesterday, it is even worse.

Democrats could at least make news by filing impeachment articles, as we know MAGA would do in response to far less egregious mistakes if it was a Democratic administration.

The minority party is not allowed to file anything in the house. But they could certainly be talking more about why these things are illegal. Please contact Roger Wicker of MS the house armed services committee chairman and demand a hearing with Hegseth on the Signal scandal.

Oh thank you. I thought MTG filed impeachment against Biden when they were the minority, but what you say makes more sense. I will follow your suggestion. Blowing up their phones is about the only influence we have I guess. What baffles me; don’t GOP members and voters feel a level of anxiety about the risks we are ALL facing due to this insanely incompetent cabinet? Do they think they are immune from a terrorist attack, or a pandemic? Or do all of them subscribe to The Rapture?

There are members of the GOP that are every bit as upset at this as many of us are. We need to keep the pressure on those in a position to do something, such as Thom Tillis in the senate whose vote approved Hegseth, and on Roger Wicker in the house, he is chair of the armed services committee, there has been a letter to him demanding hearings on this, I don’t know if any republicans signed it, but you can call his office and tell him as a citizen you demand this.

Of course. Dems are ALWAYS the scapegoat.

Yes! That darn double standard.

Waltz is calling Goldberg "scum." Trumpworld will envelop all this in conspiratorial shit about Goldberg.

I was expecting The Atlantic to hold onto their “trump card” of screenshots until the heat increased, but the things heated up fast! So I’m glad they didn’t let the narrative run away without a challenge.

I was hoping they would hold it to use as a weapon against future threats to punish or silence the fourth estate.

In my 65 years, I have never once suggested blackmail as a palatable solution, but then again, I never thought I would be paying to read Bill Kristol every day. (No offense to Bill, I'm a loyal fan now, but if you'd told me that 20 years ago I would never have believed it!)

Agreed. I bet they planned to hold off releasing the details, but the assault on Goldberg came swift and fast and had to be shut down; as we know a lie spreads faster than the truth. I now see that a swift reveal was a good defense.

Yeah, they are coping pretty hard over on Reddit in r/Conservative. Lots of JG talked his way into the chat (??), somehow hacked his way in, someone working for Waltz did it, etc. Being wrong and believing a lie is too painful for the big manly alpha dogs, so instead they quiver and shout in the hopes no one sees them pee down their leg.

They think Goldberg hacking his way into the chat somehow absolves them of responsibility? Incredible, if Goldberg could do that then literally thousands more could do it. That includes Russia, China, Israel, Iran and so many individuals. If Goldberg was able to hack our highest cabinet members, our problems are worse, not less!
