On COVIDiocy: It has always annoyed me that COVID skeptics don't acknowledge their own errors - their predictions of a death toll comparable to seasonal flu; their claims that COVID was no worse than the flu; their hostility to mitigation measures - while they crow about any hindsight information that shows mistaken predictions or unnecessary measures by "alarmists."
I recall one critic-pundit saying "Why are people making such a big fuss about an illness in one nursing home in a far corner of America?"
There are people who basically make a living by declaring "The experts are wrong!" - but their own livelihood does not require them to be right, or even to admit that they were wrong.
What's worse is the ascription of malign intent or callousness to people who were trying to save lives and health in a situation full of unknowns but with some frightening indicators. "They're just trying to control us with all these restrictions! They don't care about children!" Never mind that the restrictions were temporary., or that some other countries had similar or tighter restrictions.
It's the same conspiratorial thinking that could look at an amply documented event like the 1/6/21 attack on the Capitol, publicly incited by Trump & his allies and videoed by many of the participants, and believe that the perps were all framed by the "deep state" and are actually the victims. It's the mindset that views the whole "administrative state" as being full of communists who hate America and are always persecuting conservatives, and therefore needs to be smashed to pieces.
