For the Democrats to be able to weaponize this fact against Republicans, Republicans would have to care about the hypocrisy. By longstanding tradition, they do not. They care about power. Any attempt to make them care will only elicit sneers and mocking laughter.
On the other hand, the statement makes for good fundraising fodder for Democrats.
