I think Paul Ryan makes the salient point that any further surrendering of institutions to the nationalists and populists only further solidifies their hold on them.
Let's be clear about one thing: Fox News was not created to be a news organization. It was created to be a propaganda machine. What is being discussed is what version of propaganda various parties want to be extolled.
Paul Ryan is not a leader - never was - just another weak wanna be coward who isn't capable of even challenging Kevin McCarthy - Republicans were taken in, again, by this alleged "boy wonder" with his warmed over "voodoo economics"
Paul Ryan is just another spineless GOP hack. He was castrated by Trump in 2016 and has been looking for his balls ever since. He is only speaking out against Trump now because Fox News is distancing themselves from the orange clown and Ryans puppet master Murdock is getting sued biggly.
Twenty-seven minutes. That's as much as I could take listening to Paul Ryan spew his usual fiscal-conservatism drivel. He can't stop talking about how his plan to "reform entitlements" and cut taxes (for the rich, as usual), but not once does he ever take any responsibility for his party blowing up the deficit, and not once does he reference how any of his grandiose fiscal policies would actually help people. He never talks about people at all. The final straw was when he dared to compare Biden to Trump, asserting that they basically say the same things. Ryan in his continued role as board member at Fox News, asserting that he stays to try to change things, is such joke. He proves that he is no different than any of them - he just sounds more sincere. Perhaps if I'd hung in for the rest of the interview, I would have ended up with a different perspective, but frankly twenty-seven minutes was enough to make me feel like I was going to loose my lunch.
I listened as long as I could. Ryan is a savvy evader. But his big idea - to destroy Obamacare.... which would have made things even worse for rural hospitals, was an evasion and a lie. And he can't admit that 40 years of tax cuts don't spread prosperity?
Nor do both parties have entertainment wings. A few Dems like AOCs may have a twitter following, but she is far more serious a legislator than any of the GOP twitter heads.
In any case ... Ryan is clearly still keeping up appearances so that GOP groups can hire him as opening speaker for a 3 day program. Or maybe closer - and he will tell all who came that things are just great.
PR to CS: “you remember….we used to….back in the day….”
No doubt in my mind he hoped reminding you of shared “good times” would convince you to take it easy on him.
He did not sound forthcoming. He didn’t sound honest.
OTOH, you asked the right questions the right way Charlie. If he’s not capable of a full-throated denunciation of what’s going on with the not-so GOP, it’s one more important thing to know about him.
I forced myself to listen to Ryan, and all I can say is that he is delusional. He thinks the GOP is just going to go back to pre-trump. Go ahead, Paul, bury your head even deeper in the sand.
Ryan seems to think America's biggest problem is "woke." "Woke" is, as far as I understand it, is largely constructed by the right wing to terrorize white Americans. Otherwise, I don't think it is a thing, unless you really don't think learning Black History in America is important. Seems to me that there are conservatives right here at Bulwark who think it IS important. One other thing; Ryan seemed to be really annoyed at Charlie for asking these questions, and challenging him. And to think that they used to be close.

Paul Ryan is the Gavin Newsom of Wisconsin

I guess Ryan still receives the GOP talking points memos; he worked the word "woke" right in there as required.

What a coward. He objected to Murdoch (big deal) but continues to collect a Fox paycheck.

Ryan said “woke”
His “Justifications” for staying on the Board of Treason make no sense, other than to confirm his cowardice
So, Reagan GOP hate govt don't want to improve it just tear it all down. Educate me on this please.

Ryan's false equivalency is so annoying.
gees by the looks of these comments, you didn't do so well Mr. Ryan.
