May I again point out three things: (1) the US Government is numerically (employees) the same size as it was 50 years ago, despite the 68 million population increase; (2) as a proportion of over-all population, US government services costs are among the lowest in the advanced nations; and (3) services have improved dramatically, due to huge increases in individual productivity, a phenomenon enjoyed across the entire economy, not just government.
The random, wholesale, mindless, unresearched shattering of any institution, governmental or private, defies reason and logic. You expected reason and logic? Dream on.
Much of the waste, fraud, and abuse that infected the federal government fifty years ago have been reduced by various reform efforts. But, as in so many ways, MAGA lives in the past, repeating obsolete slogans and focusing on old problems instead of current problems.
Much of the legacy media does too, including Dems who should know better. It's just taken as a matter of fact that the govt is bloated and waste/fraud is rampant. People always think they are getting ripped off by someone and that there is some research, some program, some department that is just a boondoggle. Of course most people have no idea how much or how little is spent on things; they always assume "foreign aid" is 25 percent of the budget when it is (or was) less than 1 percent.
I don’t think this administration actually believes that there’s any waste or fraud. They believe in small government and privatization of most current government services. They also believe the “deep state”, ie, career government employees, stop them from changing the US into a libertarian Christian Nationalist’s dream. Therefore the solution is to get rid of as many federal employees as is humanly possible, reduce the various departments and agencies to a size that’s incapable of functioning, and then privatize what’s left over. Waste, fraud and abuse are just buzz words for a slogan their voters have been programmed to believe.
The sicker, poorer, stupider and more desperate we all are, the easier time they will have to implement their oppressive theocracy. That is what they are aiming for.
Reason and logic have nothing to do with the thought processes of a malignant narcissist who thinks he is a very stable genius, who is determined to fire all the people who likely did not or do not support him. Trump wants all experts to be replaced by loyalists, and he has selected cabinet secretaries who will carry out his wishes.
