Correlation does not equal causation. Does any of this sound familiar boys? Good God. When are we going to stop giving billionaires credit for anything other than having, and perhaps earning, a billion dollars? Lutnick to Kennedy, “sounds right to me”. The sheer intellectual laziness of some current conservatives in regard to vaccine science/immunology/epidemiology/public health policy is stunning.

I thought for sure that Trump’s dump truck pics would be his Dukakis moment! Oh well, it must be a cult thing. And Bill nails it again: We’re just going to wildly speculate that the last time the economy looked as solid as it does today, half the country wasn’t being told “we’re in the middle of the worst economy in history” by their cultish leader.

Many thanks for your article this morning, Mr. Kristol. You and the other guys at The Bulwark are the good guys. Something I never thought I would never say about conservative men and a very good sign for times ahead. :)

Trump would get the credit for a healthy economy at the beginning of his term and then Biden-Harris would get the credit for the post-tariff disaster at the end of Trump's term. Both the WaPo and the NYT would agree.

First observation: Yes, the programme The Oathbreaker and his sycophants illiterally promote is fascistic.

Second observation: For those "liberals" who are upset over The Common Good ad promoted by Julia Roberts, here's the accompanying ad voiced over by George Clooney: https://youtu.be/PDOLkGV4-Ls?si=Jhtz2Ufbzqcab1J9.

Perhaps this will satisfy those people.

Is it legal to have a non-citizen serve in the President's cabinet?

I'm thinking Putin, of course. Or any other of Trump's assigned handlers.

I know, I know, most cabinet positions require Senate confirmation . . . but if the R's control the Senate? Or with a permanent "acting position"?

Women should remember that election workers will protect the right to vote in secret. I have been an election judge when we have had to stop a husband from joining his wife in the voting booth when she said she didn’t need help. People who need help voting get to say who—-a family member or friend or poll workers. In my state, both a Republican and a Democrat worker help those who need help.

I worry about conflict resolution challenges in general at polling places. Apparently there have already been a few doozies! I don't feel comfortable with the limited training we were offered, and hope to get a little reading in before the day.

Any woman (or other vulnerable family member) in that position will have to go home with the person after, so it would take a brave one to even ask poll workers for help.

My state has rules similar to yours. Unlike some places I've seen in the news, voters are allowed to wear political clothing here, so that's one less thing to have to enforce. The rules on electioneering and harassment seem a bit vague to me, but as a lowly clerk my only job would be to slow it down until I could get the attention of a higher-up ...

I worry about this whole "flood the zone with observers" MAGA strategy. Observers are basically a Good Thing but if anyone *wants* to abuse the system to harass voters, that seems like a good in. Our rules say only one observer per (major, recognized) political party at a time, and the only person they're supposed to talk to at all is the top boss, so if all goes well I'm off the hook --- but if it gets weird, or the top boss flakes out (not a complete impossibility, he's still finding his sea legs), I just want to make sure not to screw up any initial encounter I might be stuck with.

Our second-in-command, who is the go-to for keeping order, is very savvy and experienced. And we're way out in the boondocks, so probably not a prime target for the mischief makers. I just want to be as prepared as possible, just in case.

Hope that wasn't TMI, thanks for listening to anyone who did!

As a biomedical researcher, I must say that the idea of the crackpot RFK Jr. in charge of the NIH is chilling.

How did RFK Jr. turn out to be so wackadoodle? His father must be spinning in his grave.

He’s one of the many Republican men who want to stay relevant to Republicans that support Trump. Go away already - no one is listening. They’re all over on 4chan or Reddit.

Trump said it himself, at his Madison Square Garden rally: "I’m going to let [RFK Jr.] go wild on health. I’m going to let him go wild on the food. I’m going to let him go wild on the medicines."

What's next? Hannibal Lecter to redesign the Food Pyramid?

Putin must be absolutely laughing his ass off.

Btw the next costume I want to see Trump wearing is an orange jump suit as he cleans up the trash along the side of the highway. :)

All the economic gloominess and pessimism despite the evidence of prosperity going on all around is a perfect example of "Who you gonna believe? Me or your own eyes." I can accept stupidity, half of people will be born below the median on the intelligence scale and that's not the person's fault, it's just bad luck.. But willful ignorance can't be forgiven.

"By then, perhaps most American men will understand that whining is not a substitute for thinking, nor bellowing for persuading."

I think this is true now. It's not "most American men" but a minority who are this way.

For the good of the nation I desperately want Harris to win, but a small part of me says she personally would be better off losing. As President it's easy to envision the hatred, the vile racist invective, the constant unwarranted ad hominem commentary spewing from the rightwing media machine and its hateful looney blabbermouths. Kamala appears to be a nice and decent person, she doesn't need what surely would be coming her way. Yeah, she's a politician and understands how the game is played, nevertheless I would spare her the abuse she would be letting herself in for.

Agreed. It's going to be a much much more toxic environment than it was for Biden (and she won't have the Senate). Biden only got stuff done because he is and *actual* deal-maker and a master of the legislative process. Very few people have that skill set and Kamala hasn't been around enough to know how to work members of Congress. She will be in danger of death by a thousand cuts. The opposition will be completely lawless.

If she loses, you don't think that the magats will come after her and her family? Don't underestimate the violence of an empowered mindless magat mob.

Can someone please explain to me why the liberals on SCOTUS couldn’t write a dissenting opinion in the VA voter purge case? Such an opinion would likely have forced the majority to write an opinion, but even if not, the minority could have explained the majority opinion and why they dissented. Personally, I know the conservatives deserve condemnation, but the liberals have been way too compliant while the conservatives have run over them time and time again.

Exactly! I wish they would be more vocal in their dissent and make sure it gets out to the media.
