Before you can get people to use their brains, you first need to get them to breathe and be calm.

Most trump supporters seem addicted to adrenaline and rage. They don't sort the truth from the lies because they are too busy enjoying the rush their outrage gives them.

I have 1 sibling yelling his head off on Facebook about people getting ONLY $750 from FEMA

for relief. Another sibling packs a pistol and grumbles about "Sanctuary Cities". Get a grip, we're in Texas FFS!

They want to stay mad to hold fast to the belief they can't have been taken in by a conman. Fox et. al. keeps them entertained.

My understanding is that the 750 is what they give you on day one, no questions asked. You then fill out forms later for specific aid for your circumstances. (not saying you didn't know this).

Why do these people just believe that $750 is all there is and will ever be?

And I know...because it fits their priors.

A lot of his friends explained that to him. 1 friend even said his brother said that he was getting great help from FEMA. Another one of my brother's friends told him he was a liar.

It breaks my brain.

To paraphrase the Bene Gesserit litany, "Anger is the mind killer."

Correct. If you have a MAGA person in your life, does he or she seem happy ? Probably not.

Never happy.

They have good lives yet complain about the economy.

I'm reminded of a quote by Jo Frost ("Supernanny") : Badly behaved, angry children are never happy children".

It would be so nice if we could help MAGA's to be happy - without them having to hurt other people to make it happen. I always taught my kids "Being nasty makes YOU feel nasty - don't do it!"

I loved Supernanny. Until she intervened, the children ran the household, not the parents. The nanny was firm with the children, but she also was loving. Those are the keywords for K-12 teachers managing classroom behavior.

IF Kamala wins - and is inaugurated - the next thing the pro-democracy coalition needs to do is figure out how to reach MAGA and depolarize our country. There are a number of organizations already doing that. I can provide a list if anyone's interested.

I would find it encouraging if you could name some of them, Sandy. Americans have always been so "can do" and hopeful. We could all use a bit of hope right now.

Even if they seam happy, it always comes with a caveat, "I'm happy, but I'd be happier if it wasn't for those damn libruls!!!".

My wife's book club was disbanded and reformed without the lady who would not stop talking about trans surgeries on immigrants in detention centers (which was, of course, apropos of nothing to do with the book).
