As an actual practicing Christian (Lutheran born and raised)I get really ticked when I get lumped in with people like DeSantis. In fact to many people "Christian" equates with "evangelical." I readily acknowledge that there are some pretty mean-spirited priests, bishops and pastors in Wisconsin, where I live. But they are a minority of true believers and followers of Christ.

As just one example, my congregation in southern Wisconsin has sponsored refugee families from Cambodia, Bhutan, Bosnia and Afghanistan. We have done it because we follow Christ's commandments to love our neighbors as ourselves. We don't try to "convert" these folks to Christianity or our view of it; there is no quid pro quo for our help. We just do it because we're supposed to.

There are many of us out there. Catholic Relief Services and Lutheran Social Services are just two church-based organizations which sponsor and help resettle refugees from all around the world. There are many others.

I am an actual factual born again, evangelical Christian. Usually, we come down on the conservative side of things.

DeSantis’ actions are neither conservative nor Christian. I don’t know what the heck they are.

Oh and get this: I was taught that Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed due to sexual sin. Guess what? They weren’t. “Sodom’s sins were pride, gluttony, and laziness, while the poor and needy suffered outside her door.”

Absolutely agree about the Christian duty to strangers, foreigners and neighbors. It is grotesque to treat people as political props while calling yourself a Christian. In the case of Latin Americans is it even worse because it is likely that the group contains your Christian brothers and sisters. The obligation of love and charity is even higher!

People are using their own selfish criteria to define Christianity. God ain't in it!

There are many, many Christians, including me, that disagree with this whole Christian nationalism ignorance that these people are spewing. They are injecting themselves and their desires in Scriptures that they are not using correctly.
