Yes, we can recognize the utter depravity of this boast but we must also recognize, tragically, that it is likely true. Trump’s supporters see no evil, hear no evil, and speak no evil, even when it’s staring everyone right in the face. These people might be complete morons but they are masters at gaslighting. And they’re too enthralled with Trump, too drunk on their own power, too incapable of admitting they made a mistake and too stupid to care. They’re the new four horsemen of the apocalypse.
I posted something about this in my personal social media account and got a "whatabout email servers" response. The whataboutism is probably the strongest thing about this administration...
"I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot someone and not lose any votes, ok?" remains the most true thing Trump ever said.
Can we recognize the depravity? You and I can. MAGA supporters can't; they're like "not depraved, not depraved, YOU'RE depraved!" or "but what about Hillary's email server? BoTh SiDeS BaD!!!!!" And that's the problem right there.
It’s probably an accurate one. The Republicans in Congress will shrug their shoulders and say, “Well, everything went off without a hitch, so no harm, no foul, and Jeffrey Goldberg is now being investigated as a Soros-funded spy”, and move on. Next!
In other times, not too long ago, we'd be talking about real investigations, even a special counsel to ensure their fairness and thoroughness. There would be the prospect of accountability. Instead now we've got a bunch of fraternity brothers running the show, telling campus administrators that they will police their own frat house and we need not concern ourselves with the details. And a majority of administrators are fine with that. Takeaway: it is impossible to fix a problem if you are not willing to acknowledge that one exists in the first place.
“We don’t care what the media says,” a Trump adviser told Marc. “We can easily handle what would kill any other administration. This will blow over.”
Can we still recognize the depravity of this boast?

Yes. The whataboutism is pretty strong with these idiots, and so is the utter stupidity. And that’s what makes them dangerous.

Yeah, Lewis. We can and should. But we have to also recognize the ever-growing mountain of irrefutable empirical evidence that it's true.
Is it a boast if they are correct? Or is it just an understanding of how things are going to play out.
I mean, who is actually going to take them to task?
Not a boast. Simply stating the obvious.
Maybe when the advisor is willing to be named.
shows how much they think their base are suckers

Yet, the boast is most likely correct.
Sometimes they tell the truth. Sadly, this is one of those times. There will be no consequences.
Shamelessness is next to godliness I guess...
Sure, but I'm also not surprised.
