OMG! Now Trump thinks he made TS rich! He truly is bonkers! Trump just can't see that Women are smart and good at making smart business decisions. I have not seen TS declaring bankruptcy in her career decisions. Lets dump the Trump!
I am a conservative democrat. I am educated and financially solvent as are so many of the baby boomers. I must express my concern for the association between Trump and Russia. To be certain, his domestic violations represent who and what he is, untrustworthy. Bu the president has international obligations as well and it is becoming clear that former president Trump will forgo domestic security if it improves his personal well being. He continually violates a basic ethical standard that we should not view others merely as a means to an end but rather as an end in themselves. Educated citizens know this to be the standard that guides an office of service. Most of us fall in the middle. We engage in valid contractural behavior in all aspects of our lives. Most who do so just want to be safe. But most do not feel safe under the supervision of one who takes so much more than he gives and we fear losing what we have worked so hard to gain, our retirement and relative freedom from a violent death. The presidency is an office of service, not a means to pilfer what one can at the expense of the well being of others. The presidency is primarily our first point of contact with other nations. The threat that Donald Trump and his Russian associates will suspend our privileges and our safety is a substantial probability. To those in positions of influence we need you assistance in protecting ourselves from both the internal and external threats that former president Trump will most likely create. Thank you for listening.
I to am an old man. A great-grandfather of nine going on ten. My body is failing NOT my mind. Joe has done ab FDR like job so far let him have an opportunity to finish it. If he dies in office Kamala can finish the term and then we go from there. There isn’t another Democrat that can run on a record as good as Joe’s, and in my opinion no other Dem can beat Trump. Joe looks old, but Trump is incoherent and his mind is ravaged with child-like fantasies. Listen to them speak. One speaks slow the other speaks about terminating the constitution and low-flow toilet bowls. If you’re going to start with this ageism crap, then compare both candidates equally, you will find Joe can still get the job done. You owe all old people an apology.
I am new to Bulwark+ and hope I am not breaking rules. I have read the comments below and I agree with many that are written. what you will read below, which I am re-commenting, I have tried to get to podcasters and cable news/opinion channels to discuss and debate. Without success. I would REALLY appreciate readers to comment on this. THANK YOU
My Plan B:
Friends of the Bidens, including mega donors, work with Dr Jill Biden to convince her husband to step down NOW, thus avoiding his being remembered as another RBG. Kamala takes the office in a few months But with the understanding and promise that she won’t run for the office in November. This allows 1/ Biden to burnish his legacy by being responsible for the first female President and the first of color and 2/ Kamala to save herself from being partly responsible for a humiliating defeat while at the same time going down in history with the aforementioned “firsts”. We get a Democratic candidate who can beat Trump.(And I do believe there are candidates and “tickets” which could beat Trump, maybe even a split Dem/Repub ticket. There are other benefits which may accrue such as Biden’s son being out of the limelight and maybe even a ceasefire in the investigation into Biden’s secret documents debacle. I am anxious to read comments on this and hopefully debated on the podcasts
Brett, I respect what you say. But if Harris is smart, she will rely on his/her advisors. If she isn’t smart enough to do that, maybe she shouldn’t be on the ticket???
In my youth and in fact dating back to Biblical times, old age was a sign of wisdom. Joe Biden has had a half century century in Washington and gained much wisdom through t experience. How do you think he managed to get Congress to pass so many bills? He knows where all the bodies are buried. And he hasn’t forgotten the exact locations. We are not selecting a president to be an Olympic sprinter, we’re selecting a president for his brain and Biden’s is in the upper 5% of all 80 year olds.
There’s an easier option. Biden should replace Harris with probably Whitmer, maybe Shapiro. He says, “I didn’t do enough to train Harris to replace me, but I will mentor x to take my place in four years, and earlier if necessary. I have the knowledge, experience, and judgement of 50 years in every federal position, and I want to pass that statesmanship on to x.”
Safety is taken care of. Electoral votes from swing states are clinched. No messy, decisive fight at a time too late to make it. No procedural problems with switching candidates this late.
The fight Bill proposes could well spit out Newsom or Harris, and a Californian won’t take the swing states. As a truly learned statesman, Biden should pick and tutor his replacement.
I've said this before a hundred times, and I'm saying it now:
Biden is our nominee. Harris is his running mate. Barring an acute medical event, all else is fantasy football, hand-wringing, and wasted time.
If you believe he's been a great president and will be in a second term, support him. If not, call for a primary.
But don't take this incoherent position that we need to get rid of a great president to save us all from Trump.
Whatever its brute utilitarian merits, the notion of getting rid of a good president because we're that scared of his opponent is morally bankrupt, cowardly, and nakedly political in an obvious way. It surrenders to celebrity politics, authoritarian scheming, and basic principles, all at once.
What's more, it's all of that in a way that voters can see right through. Implicitly, it bows to weakness and bullying, and if anything, boosts Trump's contention that he is the only "strong man" to lead the country. (It also would likely be rocket fuel to his ongoing attempts to falsely cast Biden as some kind of "crime leader" and "usurper", but election denialism is merely a secondary concern here.)
One could counter that none of that matters, that all that matters here is beating Trump, right now. Beyond begging to differ, I tend to believe that beating Trump requires us to show some level of sincerity and backbone. Getting rid of our president, exclusively over polling concerns, is neither.
If Biden and his staff conclude he cannot perform the job another four years, then fine.
Absent that, stop wasting time with this nonsense.
Agreed. I was listening to the podcast with Tim, Bill, and AB yesterday as Bill and AB wishcasted (sp?) for some magical nominee to spring from the ashes of burning Biden to the ground.
It was infuriating listening to them point to Generic Better Democrat as the obvious nominee without naming anyone specifically who would win.
Maybe they forgot what I thoutht was common political knowledge about polling for generic nominees: those numbers drop the moment you put a real person, with a real record, in place of the magical unicorn candidate.
AB I can understand; she is a reporter to her bones and lives for the new faces and fun, exciting drama a primary grants. With Bill I think it's more personal; he's still not forgiven Biden for leaving Afghanistan. Wishcasting tends to flow downhill from wishful thinking.
Foreign policy is his thing, and Afghanistan's been the only real issue he's let Biden have it on, with both barrels, during his presidency. It's as good a real reason as any.
Biden should definitely step aside or this will be a repeat of 2016 where Democrats will refuse to vote for the anointed candidate. The DNC and Joe Biden team are all in on this with no hand to play or showdown value….
With all due respect, I'm finding it quite hard to believe that a voter who - come November - has been POUNDED with oppo-ads (courtesy of the Mouth of Donald) for four months or so, I'm suffering a "failure of imagination" that ANY non-MAGA bewitched voter would either vote for Trump or stay home because Biden is FOUR YEARS older than Trump.
Biden is EXACTLY the seasoned, savvy, mentally-stable, AND PATRIOTIC old hand we need at the helm.
Should he become unable to serve, mentally or physically, I have complete confidence in VP Kamala Harris to complete his term as she - on the worst day of her public life - will be better than ANY day in a horrific Trump second term.
What are you nuts? Even bringing up this question is insane. Trust me I'm a native New Yorker (b. 1954) living in CO and all of us Independents/former Republicans here, as well as those living in our neighboring states who we know are looking for continuity with a Biden 2nd term and saving democracy. 'Talk about buying into fear and propaganda!
....You know what?
Watch the FULL episode of Monday's 02/12/24 "The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell".
Lawrence's WHOLE show on Monday was truly, kick arse! If you get on the MSNBC site Tues. 02/13/24, you can view complete (full) episodes. I was floored. Nothing short of brilliant. I can't even describe how Lawrence succinctly, and with a rapid dispatch of well chosen words, that with a surgical accuracy dealt with the most pressing subjects of this week and election season. His choice of guests were spot on too.
Well stated and so true. What can be said about Lawrence O'Donnell other than he does his homework and is brilliant. I sometimes struggle to stay awake for 10 PM on MSNBC, but that hour is the political highlight of my day. And the wisdom and experience of Joe Biden is needed, regardless of age, in this election year when our democratic tradition has been placed on the line by the deluded fraudster, Donald Trump. No one of younger years can deal with Trump like Biden/Harris in this critical election year.
"Trust me I'm a native New Yorker (b. 1954) living in CO and all of us Independents/former Republicans here, as well as those living in our neighboring states who we know are looking for continuity with a Biden 2nd term and saving democracy."
Me, too.

Why do you think I’m gonna get on board with your choice? Bill?
I’ve blocked Kristol on x, now I’m not gonna renew on bulwark. Say something else asshole.
Can I say asshole?
I do like Tim and JVL.
That’s it. I’ve had it with this fantasy.
OMG! Now Trump thinks he made TS rich! He truly is bonkers! Trump just can't see that Women are smart and good at making smart business decisions. I have not seen TS declaring bankruptcy in her career decisions. Lets dump the Trump!
At this point it is Biden or Trump. All you are doing is helping Trump. Grow up. This is not productive!

Biden is not going to drop wars in Israel and Ukraine into Kamala Harris lap.
