It took me the fourth "Sony" to realize it didn't say "Sonny." I was assuming Sonny wrote a joke piece. Still good. Not as funny as I was expecting. ;-)
I know that my regular hangout, the iPic in Fairview, may not be the same to a true cinephile such as yourself. But it's a nice place, the private booth means that even when other people goof off on their phones it won't bother you, and they make very nice drinks! I'm actually more sad about the Angelika in Plano closing. Having two to choose from and therefore getting a diverse set of off-beat movies to see was really nice. I'll be crestfallen if the Angelika in Dallas proper closes.
I’m going to try to stay positive about the Drafthouse purchase. But if they touch the no talking policy, it won’t matter what else they do. I probably will stop going and that will end most theater movie watching for us. We probably watch an in theater movie at one Austin Drafthouse every other week. I will just have to see if the culture changes.
Tokyo Vice has been languishing in “My Stuff” since the first season debuted. I’ll get to it sooner or later. I still have the last two episodes of “Vikings” season 6 to finish this weekend.
No account of action movies in bad taste can leave out Jason Statham's Crank: High Voltage in which our hero "...faces a Chinese mobster who has stolen his nearly indestructible heart and replaced it with a battery-powered ticker which requires regular jolts of electricity to keep working..."
Been awhile since I've watched the whole "Crank" series.....truly worth doing some day when I need a total escape from reality. Jason Stratham shows his full range of acting talent.
I know I watched Bad Boys 2 back in the day. Not a second of what you described rings anything close to a bell for me. Maybe it's time I sat for another viewing.
For the record, as a male in college in the early 2000's, Bad Boys 2 was one of my favorite action movies to enjoy in theaters with my male friends. Trashy = great fun for a group! 😀
Must be too early on the West Coast, it took me a moment to get that it was Sony buying Alamo Draft House. I thought Sonny found that billionaire fan to help fund his acquisition.
Yeah, the thing I worry most about is them holding on to the "no talking, no texting" rule ... does Sony really want to get into the business of kicking people out of their movies?

I don't like the Drafthouse being owned by Sony, but it's much better than the Drafthouse going under, so I'll take it.

Is that the one where he has to have sex with Amy Smart to stay alive? (I think that actually happens in both of them, never mind.)

haha yeah I'd forgotten about some of these things as well

Me four! I was like what are they paying folks over at the Bulwark
I'm still open for offers!
The Bulwark Mutli-media conglomerate sounds good to me.
Me too!
Austinite for fifty years. Have spent a small fortune at Alamo Draft House theater
Like Amazon swallowing Whole Foods..there is going to be good and not so good with Sony taking over.
I pray they eliminate commercials during the Coming Attractions segment!!!!!!!!
