Democratic leadership didn't fail and the Democratic candidate didn't fail. The Democratic voters failed... to show up and vote! People are ultimately responsible for themselves.
Democratic leadership didn't fail and the Democratic candidate didn't fail. The Democratic voters failed... to show up and vote! People are ultimately responsible for themselves.
I would like to see more reporting and analysis on the no-show voters, who seem to have played just as big a role as (if not bigger than) Trump voters. Weird what we leave out of the equation!
To be honest, after much thought and reading various views, I am now convinced that Dems lost because they didn't address the REAL elephant in the room -- dark money and the nearly total control of our country by multi-billionaires. Bernie was right all along, but I fear it would take a revolution to dislodge the uber-wealthy powerful, and that would have terrible unforeseen consequences that would harm us all. So.... I don't know what Dems can do, but somehow we need to get the working class back and we won't get them back by pandering to the uber-wealthy. We need another FDR, with better and clearer messaging.
Step back to 30,000 foot perspective and truth of what various POTUSes have been handed and have passed forward becomes crystal clear.
Dems wrongly blamed for outcomes of GOP deficit spending, massive debt increases, regulation cutting, gerrymandering and more, while GOP falsely claims they care about debt and deficits. GOP cuts regulation, which (ahem) results in epic train crashes (E. Palestine OH) or bank failures (Silicon Valley Bank implosion). Don’t get me wrong - both parties’ congresses have been epically irresponsible on fiscal policy, but the GOP lie with impunity as, under their control, they borrow from future economies and wealth shifts to the tippy top. There are no trickle down economics; rather the only way in an equitable Democracy is the Dem trickle up approach.
I routinely thank God for the admirable, amazing Jerome Powell. Currently am very concerned that Trumpler will eff with him and FOMC’s “independence.” If he’s successful in removing Fed independence, markets will crash. Get ready.
Reminding about “lag effect…”
1. Clinton handed Bush 2 “surplus money in the coffers” - a good economy after he inherited Regan and Bush 1 debt.
2. Bush 2 and early 2000’s “spend our kids’ money congress,” plus Allen Greenspan drove America and the globe to the very brink, giving us ‘08 global financial crisis. Here you go, Barack - a welcome gift on eve of 2008 election - an economy bleeding 900,000 jobs per month.
3. Two terms of Obama doing heavy lift, pull us from the brink of financial cliff. He hands Trumpler healing economy, ready for gentle interest rate increases.
4. Trumpler, king of debt, lies and bankruptcies, jams his knee on Jerome Powell’s (apolitical Federal Reserve FOR NOW!!!) neck. Powell demurs. Covid comes along and we borrow $10 trillion more from the kids’ future.
5. Biden inherits from Trumpler - without even one day of “secure nation” transition between administrations - a nation 3 weeks shy of a Capitol insurrection by sitting POTUS, an economy shut down amidst a pandemic, unhealthy way-too-low interest rates, epic $30+ trillion in debt. Biden does not sit on Powell’s neck; rather he enacts additional debt, but this time infusing money to the middle for long term investment in workers, national security and infrastructure.
Absence of critical thinking, a long game vision, an understanding of history and a nuanced appreciation of aforementioned lag effect, we continue living with epic knowledge voids and divided nation outcomes. America’s selfish, angry, “me here now” voter base is gaslit by propagandized liars and their unregulated lie machines.
AND Dem campaign messaging utterly misses this again and again.
National debt is for emergencies. It is not for every year budget deficits or to goose an economy to make the POTUS look good.
After decades of…
1.
GOP tax breaks to wealthy wealth shifting from many to very very few
2.
A R-wing-nut SCOTUS legislating from the bench
3.
Fully corrupt pay-2-play legislator incentives
4.
Money buying elections
5.
Corporate greed delivering top shelf results for execs, shareholders and wealthiest among us
…our society has been left with deep daily struggles, systems supportive of workers gutted, hands UP (not out) to the poor are deeply diminished, regulations protecting people being hammered (when GOP in power), crime increasing, healthcare and education decreasing.
America, inch by inch, she’s become the plutocratic misogynistic oligarchy of the uber-wealthy and powerful, enabling a continued money grab - more for them and less for healthy functioning society. What are the numbers now? One percent hold the same wealth as 99%.
This election a continued reflection of America as the divided 50/50 nation she’s been becoming for decades. Nothing new here. Yes, a big Trumpler electoral college win, but the electoral college is not “the people.” If the 15 million +/- who stayed home had voted, who knows…
In this election Trumpler and MAGA GOP were in the ultimate pay-to-play relationship with new buddy Elmo Musk’s wide open wallet and swamp-of-lies X machine, plus infinite spew of lies and hate. Yes, they successfully rebranded Harris.
Trumpler win is a reflection of peoples’ dissatisfaction with government. Government that has been failing them for decades. Biden, nor Harris, ever effectively communicated the above messaging on pendulum swing between GOP and Dem administrations or how each receives that which the prior leaves. Equally important, they’ve not owned their over-the-decades part in the current mess. Add in deeply uneducated electorate and we have a deadly equation for democracy.
And here we are, THE FOX IS FULLY INSIDE THE HENHOUSE.
Hi Nicole, I don't disagree with a word you wrote. I too am frustrated because there seems to be a perception that we don't care about the working class and that's why they are all turning MAGA or at least Republican. We must find some way to convince them that we are on their side while R's are, for the most part, not.
Buckley and Citizens United both must go. They each brought private money into elections, tilting the playing field and winking in broad daylight that “government for sale to the highest bidder.”
In other first-world civilized and seemingly incorruptible democracies, both public airtime minutes and specific government dollars dedicated to candidates with no public monies involved. They run shorter, more measurable and equitable election events. Ours elections season go far too long in addition to the grotesque and corrupt private money. It seems as soon as one cycle is finished, the next begins. Our legislators and elected officials should be spending their time working for us, not running their races and glad handing in corrupt, pay-to-play shenanigans.
Both parties avail themselves of every tool legally available. If one side partakes, the other will too. Having said this,it seems in recent years, the GOP has slid into the illegal side with impunity - Russian interference, million dollar a day voter lotteries, lie machine owners in their pockets and God knows what else. The system has run amok.
We were swamped by a right wing noise machine that drowned us out. Our messaging was fine. As Mary Trump says, Democrats buy TV ads. Republicans buy TV stations. The media ecosphere is pumping bs into the air every day. Nof just Fox. Sinclair Broadcasting, Joe Rogan, Newsmax, on and on. That's what we have to overcome. Billionaires, as you said. They own the media now.
I always wanted Stacey Abrams. I have somewhat mixed opinions about her, but she did HELLA work in getting GA for Biden. I think those talents would have translated well to DNC chairman.
I don't think so. I thin k there is a subset of voters from across the spectrum who believed the skein of bullshit Trump wove about immigrants. Heck, if I believed what he was saying, I would have voted for him too.
I agree with this Tom. I think they also bought how terrible the economy is when in fact it's doing quite well. The problem is people are in information silos
It would be helpful if democratic or independent voters understood just how deep and pervasive the disinformation spewing rightwing media is. It’s the usual suspects plus podcasts, Christian outlets, along with Sinclair local radio stations pumping out republic dogma in various areas. Every concerned voter should research the various propaganda outlets so you know what Republican voters are being marinading in every day. It’s these lies that explain in large part Trump’s victory. Democrat’s big error was not devising a way to get out in front of the lies and developing a potent machine to get out the truth.
What people in Chicago and New York saw with their own eyes, not on Fox, were the legal asylum seekers bussed by the TX governor and dumped on their downtowns. I saw it in Chicago myself. I'd never seen anything like it. I understood why it was happening - we have a global migration crisis - but it was still shocking to see a camp of poor, brown men in a parking lot. I wasn't frightened - I'm not a fearful person. But I understand how others who are fearful would see it. And Trump knows how to stoke that fear.
Fox is the gateway drug. I read somewhere that it was Victor Orban who counseled MAGA (probably via Tucker Carlson) to create their own media, and they followed his advice.
The same Orban who effectively outlawed George Soros in his home country. Isn't that a "bill of attainder" of the type our Constitution protects us from--at least so far....
You mean Trump outlawing a famous, wealthy liberal will be a violation of the Constitution which prohibits bills of attainder, meaning punishment without due process.
Democratic leadership didn't fail and the Democratic candidate didn't fail. The Democratic voters failed... to show up and vote! People are ultimately responsible for themselves.
Typos! 😵 Ugh no readers, typing on iPhone!
Meant to write “…no PRIVATE monies involved…” (second paragraph)
I would like to see more reporting and analysis on the no-show voters, who seem to have played just as big a role as (if not bigger than) Trump voters. Weird what we leave out of the equation!

Democrats now raise more dark money than republicans. They stopped opposing citizens united because of that.
Buckley and Citizens United both must go. They each brought private money into elections, tilting the playing field and winking in broad daylight that “government for sale to the highest bidder.”

Agree with all you've said, Mary.
Well, like I said, ppl are responsible for themselves. Watching Fox is a choice.
Im the bill of rights--google it.

Yes, and anyone else too... It's about due process.
