Nothing Trump says has any credibility, yet as POTUS everything he says still carries weight. For anyone looking to stay informed, as most are on this site, the next four years will be fucking exhausting. This is how we become addicted to sleeping pills.

Just one thing about the Mar el Lago blob. He has a desire to bully other nation states. Perhaps his bullying has something to do with his inability to have a normal relationship with any woman with a brain and even those w/o a brain. Maybe the blob needs to get laid and leave us Americans out of his personal problems.

The Putin angle of this whole Greenland Fiasco needs to be taken more seriously. Putin met with Trump on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Osaka on June 28, 2019. On August 16, 2019 Trump calls for the purchase of Greenland. On August 20th, Trump cancelled his state visit to Denmark on the 2nd and 3rd of September, 2019. On Dec 24, 2024, Russia openly endorses Trump's Greenland idea, from the newsweek article: Russian state TV pundits saw Trump's idea as a signal for an imminent carve-up of the world into "spheres of influence."

I realize I'm sounding like a conspiracy theorist, the US will likely not ever invade Greenland, but Trump may still use this as a wedge issue and as an excuse to leave NATO and leave Ukraine to Russia. Only time will tell if Trump was just being a clown and that I'm just crazy and paranoid :)

This smells a lot like Putin Envy or maybe just like Putin. America just voted in a leader of the new AXIS of Evil: Putin, Xi Jinping, Kim Jong Un, Viktor Orbán, Donald Trump. And most of America doesn’t even blink. Meanwhile, I’m crawling out of my skin.

all of this is because bad presidents love foreign policy. Its sandbagging and preSucking. Nothing more.

Denmark should take a lesson from the new President of Mexico. She isn’t taking any guff from Trump!

Has anyone considered that perhaps trump adopts an American isolationism approach because he does not understand geopolitical strategy?

I'll go further and posit he says outrageous trash then watches liberals in outrage, BUT also gets ideas from experts who speak out and do analysis from an expert perspective.

The first question to ask is does he even understand what he's saying? In most cases, trump knows nada.

The Greenland, Canada, Panama Canal thing feels very related to Putin. Like they've reached an agreement if Trump won't (can't) end the Ukraine war in a manner acceptable to Putin, Trump can legitimize expansionism to stay friends with Putin.

Lawrence O'Donnell offered what I think was a very interesting commentary on Trump/Greenland. O'Donnell suggested that it was all wrong for journalists to be asking Trump about whether, or why, Trump wanted Greenland. The correct question to Trump is, "Describe exactly how the USA would absorb Greenland." Because Trump cannot even begin to do that. Trump doesn't understand "Statehood 101," or "Basic Territorial Law."

The greater media gives trump a gravitas of thinking like a Grand Master that he has never earned.

He just says shit. It's ok to call BS.

September 29, 1939 -- Russia and Germany declared a "new world order" and that they "now owned Poland". With the largest army in the world, Trump doesn't need a Russia alliance - tho it seems they have one and are using the same talking points for their "bullying". Today JVL attached links to a horribly chilling Atlantic article detailing how Hitler usurped and destroyed the German constitution in 53 days...and the Dems are hanging their hopes on the midterms 2 years from now?!!

Many have pointed out the parallels of Hitler and Trump...but it is becoming more and more like a really bad sequel to a really bad movie. "Project 2025 " plagiarized the scrip and the lead characters are following it to a T.

Apologies if somebody has already mentioned this. I'm not sure Trump even knows why Trump wants Greenland except in some way only a fourth grader can understand. China's interest in Greenland on the other hand stems from the fact that it is, under the glacier that covers most of it, undiscovered country which may, I emphasize May, have some high concentrations of rare earth minerals which as we all know are the lifeblood of the modern computing economy. This is why China was some years ago investing in greenlander infrastructure like an airport and I believe some municipal facilities. I don't recall where that stalled or if it stalled, but that's point one.

Reason number two, and I am dead certain Trump neither knows nor believes a word of this, is that climate change destabilizes governments and The country's most vulnerable to climate changes immediate effects (The tropics) are going to steadily lose their ability to operate geostrategically. They just won't have the resources, and sooner than later they won't even have the people because northward migrations (and some southward migrations) are going to accelerate. The new locus of geostrategic power will be the Nations within spitting distance of the Arctic circle. You might ask yourself, why not be satisfied with Alaska? At which point I refer you back to reason one, China. To go north, China has to go through Russia. And there's something to be said for the inhospitability of Siberian land. It's swampy, doesn't grow a whole hell of a lot, and treacherous. Greenland on the other hand looks like club med by comparison, and the tiny population of Greenlanders just makes it all the more attractive. China wants to be part of the Arctic Nations, so China wants Greenland which is why Trump wants Greenland. Because all Trump wants and has ever wanted is for people with real power and actual wealth to stop laughing at him.

The mute button works very well - use it. The real story is one or more layers lower where the actual working groups are implementing Project 2025 even as we speak. My guess is that the truly ambitious in the new administration will make their move around the mid-term elections. Since there is no effective resistance the Republicrats may not find it necessary to fire on Fort Sumter although I feel certain that they have their version of the Reichstag fire in their back pocket should such a maneuver prove necessary. Welcome to the New World Order.

Agree. Project 25 is a written and thusly executable plan that can be countered with the right strategy.

Everything else is demented ramblings the equivalent of "squirrel!"
