Tell him so he can understand. Mr. and Mrs. Smith own a liquor store across the street from a Tesla dealership. Mr. Musk buys $200 worth wine and beer from the store each week. In a year he spends $10 grand. Now it's a small store, but the Smiths have 2 kids in college and can't afford to buy a Tesla. So Musk has a trade deficit with Mr. and Mrs. Smith. If people use a simple example with small words, maybe Trump can understand supply and demand.

Hey Jim, Sarah thought I should contact you about the Secret Pod question I have. As a Bulwark subscriber, I watch the Secret Pod on YouTube on Apple TV and I can only watch the public portion of the Pod and have to go your Substack to watch the rest. Is there a way to watch the entire Secret Pod on YouTube by activating a subscription some way? I am a subscriber to the Bulwark YouTube Channel too. (Long suffering Browns fan and former Akronite, and can say if Haslam is allowed to move the team outside of Cleveland and build a dome, my Browns fandom will be done). johndettling@me.com

If he lies often enough, Trump supporters will believe it. They already do and will continue.

Ohio may have corruption, but I think Illinois has the record for most former governors who have been jailed.

No doubt. But I still think not enough people went to jail for HB6

Jill Lepore's piece on Elon certainly explains a lot. But what it doesn't explain is how we here in the States seem to keep ending up with crappy Canadian exports like Elon and Ted Cruz.

Not sure what happened, but back in the day Taiwan was the chief source for cheap low quality POS imports that don't work worth a damn and aren't worth having around.

The Phil Goff interview is wonderful… a clear view from the other side of Earth should make us feel less alone

My brother is house-hunting in Cleaveland this weekend and this is a timely reminder that I should be trolling him with Mike Polk videos :)

The first and only time I saw Amish was somewhere close to Akron. So I always think of Ohio when I see pictures of them. I met Doug Burgum 20 plus years ago in Fargo when I was a young auditor at Microsoft. For a senior executive, he was personable and polite. Certainly seemed normal for a rich guy. Who knew he is such a diva.

I remember your mom’s passing last year and she was quite a remarkable person. May her memory be a blessing.

Remembering your mom on this anniversary of her death, sending lots of good thoughts your way. It’s been 11 years since my mom’s death, always acknowledging the anniversary, as well as her birthday. We do the same for my dad, 2 years now. Thanks for your weekend summary, as always looking to see what I may have missed. For anyone not a Bulwark plus paid subscriber, consider it, it’s worth every penny. I know money may be tight and perhaps other Substacks, but this one is worth it.

It's been 10 years this year and I still pause to acknowledge my mother's death on that date. I'm glad you're home with your family on this one-year anniversary.

I really appreciate this new weekend newsletter and the links to stories I've missed during the week.

Ohio will break your heart. The sooner we get rid of Matt Huffman, speaker of the Ohio House and my top pick for the politician I want to see permanently retired, the better. Despite the good company he's in -- there are a lot to choose from.

In haste, the food writing. The rare appearances in the visual/aural bulwark worlds. The inexplicable affection for Ohio. Virtues. Sayonara.
