When I look at capital punishment in the abstract, I can understand the thoughtful arguments against it. But when I look at the specifics of the murders that these individuals knowingly and purposefully committed--when you really ponder that kind of deliberate evil--it's very hard conclude that commuting these murderers' sentences is justice.
Wait for the Jan 22nd flash flag aback on canadian border. UAS WANTS OUR WATER AND MINERALS.Wait for afox to feature "canadians" begging for US style healthcare lol, although 95% of Canadians abhorrent Uas care. Wait for false flags wverywhere
Fetterman wants to keep his job - what’s in it for him? Pennsylvania just went for trump and also voted out longtime senator Casey for a republican. It’s not confusing - he is chasing his constituents.
Also I believe meidas newsletter mentioned Trump is having legal problems in Panama regarding tax evasion so probably dropping that is what would cause him to stop fussing over the canal….
Fetterman’s looking for an excuse to at least get on with these guys and talk with them “man to man”, because he’s a contrarian by temperament, always trying to “stick out from the pack”.
That’s what drove him into politics to begin with, and what caused him to run for lieutenant governor of a large state as a large bro-hipster who hates wearing a suit.
It’s also what drove him to victory over a smarmy, TV-ready celebrity while himself suffering from a stroke. People liked his distinct genuineness, more than they liked his policy positions or his liberalism.
He figures “I won with this anti-conventional approach before, might as well keep rolling with it and see how far it takes me.”
Kash Patel, for all his loose screws, is a canny little shit and knows just how to manipulate Fetterman in that respect to get what he wanted out of him. Looks like he succeeded.
Fetterman probably won’t vote for him, but he’ll give other senators enough cover to do so. Nice job, John. 😕
Fetterman sounds a bit like Susan Collins. “Kavanaugh convinced me that he will respect settled law. He would never overturn Roe v. Wade.” 2. Nah, not gonna vote to impeach Trump. He’s learned his lesson.
Since his sessions with Patel were off the record, when Patel goes after people - as I’m sure he will because that’s what Trump wants, it will be he said/he said.
I'd like to reframe the 'freakout' a bit. My response to the 'let's all calm down, he's not really going to persecute Trump's enemies' is "REALLY? So the BEST we can hope for is that the head of the FBI is simply unfit for his office, and we can hope that he doesn't actively abuse his office to persecute the political rivals of Donald Trump?".
Because- let's face it- if you set aside the nutty conspiracy theories, the authoritarian sympathies, the sexual assault and misogyny, and the raw partisanship- THESE PEOPLE WOULD NEVER BE CONSIDERED QUALIFIED FOR THESE OFFICES IN ANY OTHER ADMINISTRATION. Yes, Pete Hegseth is a troglodyte. But there are also literally TENS OF THOUSANDS of people who have a better idea of how the defense department works than this weekend warrior and TV anchor- and his nomination is a slap in the face to everyone who has spent a lifetime of service to this country. It's like watching a cesspit on fire- the flames are just a distraction from the sewage that lies below. I heard that the Republicans who were interviewing Tulsi Gabbard for DNI were very concerned- not about her admiration for Assad and Putin, but because she's apparently a complete moron who knows nothing about the subjects that she would be managing in that role. This was the same annoyance I felt during the Brett Cavanaugh hearings. Don't get me wrong- sexual assault is bad. But is the bigger issue, and more objective reason to deny him the Supreme Court seat not the fact that he LIED IN HIS CONFIRMATION HEARING FOR HIS FEDERAL SEAT? Its like watching a bunch of cats being distracted by a laser pointer- except these cats hold the national purse strings, and are going to be defending our institutions for the next 4 years, so it doesn't feel great.
THIS is Donald Trump's three dimensional chess. At worst- he gets someone like Pam Bondi rather than Matt Gaetz as the head of the Justice Department. At best- he sneaks in a Pete Hegseth, a Tulsi Gabbard, or an RFK Jr. (or, God help us, all of them) to tear the place apart and distract everyone from what Trump himself is doing. And then we have to HOPE that they don't burn down their own houses? Sorry John Fetterman- I'll hang on to my panic, if you don't mind.
II can't be for the death penalty. In cut and dried cases -Mangione, for example, then yeah, OK. But we can't say that for the majority of death penalty cases. I can't imagine anything worse than putting an innocent man to death, and I think it happens too often. I'd rather a thousand guilty people go free than one innocent man be put to death.
There are many who live who deserve death, and many who have died that deserve life. Can you give it to them? Be careful in dealing out death in judgment, for not even the wise can see all ends.
As much as I might sometimes want to see death visited upon a particular obnoxious or criminal person in my fantasies, I am against the death penalty, period.
Fetterman is too laid back. I don’t know why. Trump and his gang are going to try to do everything they have been promising. Trump is already lobbing lawsuits at ABC and Anne Selzer. It is foolish to look away in the face of danger until you are sure it has passed.
Wellll, the Olympics ARE scheduled on a quadrennial basis...so I guess we're due for the Credulity Olympics again. Oh how I'm gonna miss the truth and quiet of the Biden years.

If musk spoke glowingly of Stalin, Pol Pot and Idi Amin, vance would say, what's the problem. Psychopaths unite!

Fetterman positioning himself for maximum impact when he breaks bad against Trump

Simply posing a question: Sometimes people who have a stroke exhibit personality changes. I have no evidence, just posing a question. Possible? Reference: stroke dot org (https://www.stroke.org/en/about-stroke/effects-of-stroke/emotional-effects)

I used to like Fetterman - I don't know who he is or what he stands for any longer. Too bad.
Thank you, JVL, for advocating against the death penalty. May it be abolished in our lifetimes.
I agree, Samantha. The death penalty is state sanctioned murder.
time for fetterman to go the way of sinema and manchin. why doesn't he just switch party affiliations now? why wait.
