Im a lifelong blue liberal and I have yet to feel “owned”.
I feel distrust and disgust and of course pity for the white trash magas. It must be painful to be so ugly inside. But right up there with the pity is now boredom. They are so effing boring and predictable...
But owned? Nope. Never felt owned.
But then I realized “owning humans” is literally their thing -- their heritage! They love slavery of all kinds Chinese Coolies, African Slaves, Sex Slaves and Trafficking (looking at you Gaetz), and all women in general (hey Lindsey- you are one sad little sack of
Pathos).
but truthfully, I pity them for they are pathetic. And then I yawn.
17 Do not deprive the immigrant or the fatherless of justice, or take the cloak of the widow as a pledge. 18 Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and the Lord your God redeemed you from there. That is why I command you to do this.
1) If DeSantis lured people from Texas, outside his jurisdiction, onto a plane under false pretenses, how is that different from a kidnapper luring kids into his car? And then crossing state lines, no less.
2) Don't detained asylum seekers fall under federal jurisdiction? Doesn't this stunt amount to a state illegally subverting or obstructing US immigration and/or foreign policy?
How many immigrants are employed in Florida? How would that state do without immigrants in their work force? TFG employs them at Mar a Lardo. I’ll bet DeSantis has employed immigrants in the past.
This is just more harnessing of white grievance, let's nullify it with good Christian behavior. Some can see how twisted this is. Keep your eyes on the Lord and pray that others respond to their better angels.
There are more blue border states (land borders -- are there lots of illegal immigrants entering the US from Canada by crossing the Great Lakes into Wisconsin, Indiana and Ohio?) than red ones, FWIW. This is more red border states playing games with non-border blue states.
It’s a shame how quickly the selfish and decent act of Yvon Chouinard and his family has been knocked off the news feeds because of two red clowns and their total dick move. This is ‘Merica.
DeSantis's shipping migrants is a dick move, but it's small potatoes and a distraction from the real Bad Stuff. Masters praising the wisdom of a domestic terrorist is disturbing, but heck, lots of people think modern industrial civilization has some downsides. No, the danger to highlight here is the politicized military that Masters advocates and the Cheetoh would happily create. And then we need to extrapolate that out into what it would really mean and paint a picture, because that's the end of America as we know it. There will be military parades in Washington DC. Generals will eagerly use the military to conduct political photo ops. Whatever they're called, there will be commissars to report disloyalty to the Cheetoh and the R party, until they're loyal or scared into submission down to the privates. There will be no reluctance to support the Insurrection Act, and we will see the US military firing on anti-Trump protesters. If the Cheetoh summons a violent mob to intimidate Congress or the Supreme Court, the military will protect the mob from the DC police. And at gunpoint the Supreme Court will rule 9-0 that the Cheetoh can reign as president for life with no further elections because, well, it doesn't matter why, as judge Cannon in Florida shows us, if you've got the power to issue the decision, the reasoning is relevant. The opinion's reasoning could be copy and pasted from a phone book, as long as it says Trump wins. If there are further elections, the military won't hesitate to confiscate voting machines and declare fraud in any case an R doesn't win. Ds will be allowed some minor victories, but nothing that really matters. At that point, the American people will be in the same situation as the people of Venezuela or Russia, and non-violent political participation will be meaningless. If the situation in Venezuela can be as dire as it is, and Maduro cannot be pushed out, why would we assume the Cheetoh or Tucker Carlson or DeSantis or whoever it ends up being will be pushed out? And if they were, it would only be the cronies fighting among themselves over who gets to be the new Boss. The attempted putsch of 2020-21 would've succeeded if the Cheetoh had a personally loyal military. The Constitution and laws would be about as important as a roll of toilet paper, and less useful.
That terrifies me. I live in fear of what a president Cheetoh, or, frankly, a president DeSantis would do along the lines above. Will I be arrested? Would I be better off emigrating? If I did, how long would democracy and liberty last there if the US was using its full influence to support authoritarian wannabes? But I don't think most Americans, even a lot of Ds or anti-Trumpers more broadly, are scared enough. Given the statements by people like Masters, the Cheetoh himself, and the people around the Cheetoh following his loss in 2020, what I'm presenting is not particularly speculative, but expressed intentions. It's these images that folks like Charlie with a more public platform should be relentlessly focused on. Say what you will about Fox and the right-wing media ecosystem, but they're great at generating fear, which is a very effective motivator. It's just that it's all dishonestly manufactured or greatly exaggerated. The problem with the pro-democracy media, in my mind, is that they have failed to whip up enough fear (or anger, if you prefer), fear that is totally and completely justified, and in this case, useful and productive. Take our progressive friends---they are very upset that Biden hasn't done enough on climate, on racial issues, on whatever. Well, if they're living in a Cheetoh dicatatorship, every issue they care about is lost, perhaps for the rest of their lives. It's all gone. Those people are clearly not frightened or angry enough. Look, I'd prefer people could be motivated purely by high-minded principle and integrity and concern for their fellow citizens. I'd prefer not to inject more fear into our politics. But we're not choosing between bad and good. We're choosing between bad and much, much worse. Take WW2 or the Civil War----the good guys won in both cases, but hundreds of thousands of Americans still died. Fighting, with all the death that entailed, wasn't a good option, but it was the least bad option. We're in a similar situation today.
I went to a diner to eat at 11 this morning and couldn’t because they were closing at that time due to lack of staff. Please ship the migrants to upstate NY so diners have workers and I can have brunch.
The pity is that stunts like this have everyone focusing on the stunts instead of trying to understand the roots of the problem and finding ways to address it.
I should have phrased that better. The roots of the problem are the dislocation of populations due to poverty, criminal gangs, political upheavals, the wrath of Mother Nature, etc., etc. What I meant to ask is what is the nature of the problem in terms of how our system is handling this influx. I know that this has been an issue for decades but I was not paying attention to the details. So there are so many things I do not understand. I know Stephen Miller had a hard-on to eliminate immigration completely. How does the number of legal immigrants today compare to previous years? Is the problem illegal immigrants (those who snuck across the border) or just the number of those entering claiming refugee or asylee status? Are the illegals being returned when they are apprehended? What is the number of asylees and refugees and how does it compare to previous years? What is the difference between refugee and asylee status? What is the number of immigrant court justices and how does it compare to previous years? What is the court backlog and how does it compare to previous years? What is the federal government doing to help states handle the problem? What is the level of immigration that we can support? Etc., etc.
I do not see anyone either here on Bulwark or in the wider media explaining these things. After listening to JVL and Sarah tonight I do not think even they understand the issues, although I believe with Sarah that we can handle this problem. Instead we get the Kabuki theater of Abbot and DeSantis. And, understand, I *love* Kabuki theater, just not as a political solution. (Incidentally, mad props to DeSantis for chartering airplanes for them, instead of just jamming them into cattle cars.)
I wish every reporter would jam their microphone into the faces of Abbot and DeSantis, as well as the Republican officials supporting them, and say "Okay, you're so smart. You say this is Biden's fault. What do you think he should do to fix this? And isn't this something that should really be solved by Congress instead of by Executive Order? So what should Congress do?"
I would love to see a debate over this. This could be an opportunity to finally bring this issue to some sort of a solution.
Personally, given the widespread labor shortage and the falling American birth rate, my opinion mirrors that of the contestant in the SNL "Who's More Grizzled" skit: If you've got a strong back we can use you.
“[T]he industrial revolution and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race … “ Welp. I kind of agree with that one merely because the industrial revolution facilitated the current infestation of humans on the planet.:) I might go back much, much further and note that it all went awry when we stopped being hunter-gatherers! But here we are, and it’s too late to go back. Although … perhaps “we” will be back to hunting and gathering following the nuclear winter that’s likely coming sooner or later …
So I thought Texas and Florida were in the heart of the Bible Belt where Christians exhibited love and charity to the strangers among us. Those godless big cities were where all the heathen dwell. Guess I had that wrong. Glad we got that cleared up.
Let's re-frame this for a moment. What if Gov. Newsom started loading homeless people onto busses (using taxpayer money no less), in some cases promising there would be housing and jobs at the destination in order to convince some to get aboard, and then dropping them off unannounced in the middle of po-dunk towns in red states with a message, "well now you hayseeds know what it's like dealing with homeless people." Can you imagine the rage on RW media? "How dare the woke Gov of California dump his problems on us!!!" Mind you it wouldn't be anger at using vulnerable people as political props, but what an injustice has been foisted upon them.
The truth is immigration is a problem that many states are shielded from simply due to geography and that absoluty needs to be addressed. That it hasn't yet is a bipartisan failure that certainly doesn't start with the Biden Admin. But cruel acts using immigrants as pawns to get attention and give rise to thousands of RW memes featuring the Obamas fretting about the new residents on Martha's Vinyard isn't a solution either.
The fact that this stunt worked as well as it did (getting media attention and having folks like us talking about it instead of, say, talking about Biden likely averting a rail strike that would have affected way more people than border immigration does, or the positive news out of eastern Ukraine) and scoring a lib-owning "win" for the GOP base, sadly, says a lot about where we are as a country right now.
I have an idea. Let’s arrange a G5 to stop and pick up Ronnie and Greg. Tell them it’s been sent especially for them to meet TFG in Maralardo. Once airborne take away their phones, computers, money, and redirect to… Haiti, Venzuela or Guatemala. Land, open the doors, march em off and take off.
Im baffled by the concept of “owning” the Libs.

Two questions:
1) If DeSantis lured people from Texas, outside his jurisdiction, onto a plane under false pretenses, how is that different from a kidnapper luring kids into his car? And then crossing state lines, no less.
2) Don't detained asylum seekers fall under federal jurisdiction? Doesn't this stunt amount to a state illegally subverting or obstructing US immigration and/or foreign policy?

Wonderful "christian" DeSantis is threatening to pull his stunt again.
This is just more harnessing of white grievance, let's nullify it with good Christian behavior. Some can see how twisted this is. Keep your eyes on the Lord and pray that others respond to their better angels.

Not to mention North Dakota, Montana and other states up there. :-)

Happy to help! I work as a prosecutor so I love this stuff.

I'll say it again. This world will be a more peaceful and pleasant place once the giant mutant cockroaches take over.
