The lengths studios will go through to cheat people into seats is deplorable these days. I think they have to do this now with Clint Eastwood, as some of his recent movies have been real duds. Cry Macho? OMG please come on!
Some of them have been fucking amazingly and surprising. I was amazed when I watched Richard Jewell and how it turned out to be a masterpiece, a classic, in my humble opinion anyway.
I would not be surprised if this was not a narrative designed to tweak the Eastwood-sentimentalists to get out and see this movie - for the highest price. I am sure I will eventually be interested enough and see it when it shows up on NetFlix, Hulu, Amazon Prime or whatever.
The same how I feel about the latest Alien movie. After the eye-alive, but brain dead last two movies, Prometheus and Covenant, I am just totally unwilling to pay, but a little curious. I'll wait however long it takes.
Hollywood hasn't figured out how to adapt its marketing tactics post-Covid. There are far more nimble ways to to market than 8 figure marketing budgets. Speaks to a lack of creativity and a lack of belief in anything than an action blockbuster. What a shame.
Both movies look good. I didn't recognize Eastwood with his beard. Hmmmm. Kieran Culkin was outstanding in Succession. Fearless and ferocious. Eisenberg is always riveting, even as an awkward nerd. Even as Lex Luthor. Great to see originally written films!
I'm with you on Juror No. 2. If your marketing team can't turn this into a $50M grossing film then get a better marketing team. Last week I went to a 6:45 PM screening of Conclave and it was packed with older audiences.

Man, Richard Jewel was done dirty by Twitter.
