Join us in Seattle on January 21 for No B.S. with The Bulwark with special guest Dan Savage.
Friends:
I’m excited to announce that Sarah, JVL and I are taking The Next Level on the road this January. . .and I convinced them to join me on the West Coast!
Come hang with us January 21 in Seattle, WA for a live taping of the show along with special guest Dan Savage, LGBTQ-rights advocate and author of the Savage Love sex-advice column.
Sarah, JVL and I will kick off the evening with a bonus live Next Level taping where we look ahead at what we might expect from the newly divided Congress.
Then Dan will join the stage for some Saturday-night R-rated fun where we’ll banter a bit about sex, politics, and the recent uptick in hate speech targeting drag queens and the whole LGBTQ community.
After that we’ll invite the audience to ask us about politics or Dan about. . .more personal matters! (And I guess, if you want some more vanilla advice, you could ask JVL about personal matters as well!)
If you don’t know Dan, he is an absolutely legendary sex advice columnist, podcast host and co-founder of the It Gets Better campaign. He's the man who coined an alternate definition for Santorum (google it...or don't actually). And most importantly for me, he was instrumental in helping my younger closeted self learn about the big gay world out there that I was missing. Â
But after a few years of reading his column, I was sad to find out that unbeknownst to me we had a little beef. Back in 2016 Dan engaged in some light trolling at my expense, given I was an out gay man working as a GOP spokesperson. (I probably deserved it, but it still made me a little sad).
That’s why I was so delighted to learn that in the intervening years Dan has become a Bulwark super-fan!
As such, January’s event will not just be a fun, live show, but also the culmination of my redemption arc and maybe even the cementing of me and Dan’s unlikely friendship. We are going to grill each other with burning questions about politics, my past career, and some (hopefully not-burning) questions about sex for my edification and the rest of y’alls entertainment.Â
I can promise you a fun evening of politics, sex and community—we’ve warned the good folks at Town Hall Seattle to keep the bar open so we can all meet and make merry.
I hope to see you in Seattle on January 21. Gonna be a blast.
—Tim
P.S. We’re opening sales for this event to Bulwark+ members first but we’d be grateful if you would share No B.S. with The Bulwark with anyone who might enjoy this show.
And we encourage you to bring your friends—buy three tickets and get one free. Details at TheBulwark.com/NoBS.
The sales pitch that Tim had to put on JVL to fly cross country to do a live sex podcast where he has to speak to people will go down in history as the greatest sales job of all time!
I just screamed so loud my husband thought one of my sisters was pregnant. After the DC event I figured you would visit us way out here eventually. Can’t believe we are getting a Bulwark event so soon!
